The rain continued to drench the two girls as they walked slowly through the large forest, lightning being the only source of light for their night blindness. They didn't even know if it was night anymore, or just a very early dawn.
Blue began to feel more weighed down as time went on, like Pud was getting heavier. But she wasn't, Blue was only getting more exhausted by the second she was walking with her friend. She prayed silently to whoever was listening that they'd find shelter soon, and fast.
Pud closed her eyes, and Blue could feel her ears flatten against her hair. They had to stop.
"Want to take a break?" Blue breathed.
Pud managed to shake her head. "We're gonna freeze if we don't find somewhere now... keep going."
Blue's lips formed in a straight line, then she sighed. "Okay."
They trudged on and on for what seemed like hours through the darkness, and Blue was done. Her knees were about to give out before Pud gasped.
Blue looked at her. Pud's ears perked up and her pupils dilated in shock. Blue turned her head to see what she was gaping at, and she joined her surprise. It was a gate. A mossy, rusty gate.
"Oh," Blue gave a small sigh of relief, "thank God."
She helped Pud walk through the gate and through the fog, was a house. A very, very big house.
"It's so pretty!" Pud squealed, jumping up and down slightly on one leg.
"And... big." Blue said in a small voice.
It was good enough, they were going to die if they didn't find any place, so they went inside. Blue helped Pud sit down on the broken wood and mud and went to close the door to shut away the downpouring rain. Just as Blue was about to speak, a loud yell was heard and a small figure crashed through the glass window that was next to the door.
Blue and Pud yelped in unison as the figure stood up. It was... a dog? More like a dog hybrid with very large ears dyed blue at tips as well as his tail. He wore a gray trench coat like shirt and black pants with no shoes like the girls. His eyes were the most unique thing about him, though. They're just white circles; no pupils or iris. He pointed his pawed fingers at the girls and laughed like Papyrus the Skeleton.
"Mwehehehe! Surrender, intruders!" The courageous dog had his other paw on his hip.
Before the girls could speak, Pud peeked out from behind Blue's shoulder and the dog gasped loudly.
"A cat!" He screamed.
"A dog?!" Blue replied, mocking his tone to try and shoo him away.
Pud hissed, like any cat would, and took a swipe with her hand at the dog. Blue noticed claws on her fingers had come out of nowhere when she approached the dog.
"Ow!" The dog threw his paw up to his face, "that hurt!"
The dog boy attempted to pounce at Pud, but faceplanted onto the cold concrete mid-air.
Blue's face twisted with confusion and anger that he tried to hurt her friend. She yelled, "Stop!"
The boy stood, "Mweh, I'll stop! But you must state your names first, intruders!"
"Blue," Blue tossed her hands up in both surrender and defense, "m-my name's Blue!"
"Pud," Pud hissed between her teeth. "What's your name, mutt?"
"I'm Vinny!" he said proudly, putting his paw on his chest. "I ran away a long time ago, and I own these woods!"
Blue felt something in her chest as he said that. And the fact that he tried to attack them or possibly kill them both pissed her off.
