Chapter Two: Intent

Standing in a giant Colosseum as sections held the higher ups in bunches above you. Tall white hats worn by them and pale white uniforms. Partners standing next to each other but you were alone, your partner Naomi quit a long time ago from your selfish behavior. Hearing the others happily exclaim "They're here for us!", another  "Look at all those adults!". As all you 'children' knew papa he raised his arms from the highest stand his voice echoing the massive walls "My children, you have the good fortune to be chosen as the newest parasites! Your great predecessors defend out cities and our city, and as our representatives they splendidly took flight!". Every partner had a ring with both their fingers in it, you alone had no partner running off in shame. Squad leader Ichigo your childhood friend watched from the corner of her eye, her partner quietly mumbling "Ichigo, nows not the time. Focus on the ceremony" .  

As fast as you could you ran, escaping to the outside metal framework where you found Naomi and a guard. "Code 016 and 703, please wait here, you will be sent back to the garden when the next plant ship arrives" no expression from the guard, them standing tall and static holding a sharp knife'd staff. Naomi clutched her heavy suitcase her eyes dim with dark circles under her eyes, "You should've stayed Hiro" a long silence afterwards. Not daring to look at her "No Naomi, I would be of no use even if I stayed", Naomi watching your expressions sighing before speaking "Did.. you refuse because of me?". Blankly you stared at the far distance of dust in the horizon, Naomi began weeping her body trembling, you concernedly calling "Naomi?".  "Do you remember how many people dissipated from the orphanage Hiro? Theres no knowing when we could end up like them" clenching her teeth as her face tensed, swiveling away tears falling from her eyes as she yelled "Atleast you have the chance to stay! So don't even bother trying to play the hero, who cares if it's favoritism!". Her knees weakened falling to the ground despair as she kept screeching "We've made it so far! I would stay even if it killed me!".  

Trotting towards the both of you the guard interrupted "quit your chatter", "why.. why" covering her face with her hands "Why.. did you have to be my partner" .  Sobbing as she fell silent, the guard directing her away, this would be the last time you ever saw your partner. Your mind at a haze to it all, strolling on the metal beams as she poised above a segmented ships door. Beaming a grin one strip of hair fell on her face "Well take care Hiro", stammering back "Huh.. but why.. I?".  "It's too late for me now, I don't think we will see each other again, but you still have a chance" flinging her suitcase the weight of it held you down to the ground. "I don't need those things anymore, please share them with everyone, I hope you find a good partner, Hiro" a metal gate closed as she stepped back an elevator pushing downwards, thrashing about as you cried "Naomi!".  

One of the guards brced your body with his staff barricading you.  The next ship was arriving to take you as the other one left the ground rattling as a giant eruption blasted the ship Naomi had entered, arising from under the crackled ground was a klaxsosaur. Shook, the guard behind you ordering his comrade "Ready! Intercept, fire!", cannons all blasting at once repeatedly, your mind went to manic with the noise of the loud cannon fire. Running at full force, illuminating a blue, the dinosaur-like creature heading straight for the center. Upon impact scraping the side of it's body as it trekked against the facility, metal framework tilting, to a snap as you fell to the next floor scratching your knees. In a fit of panic dashing to Ichigo and the others till darting before your eyes was a, lion klaxosaur?you halted. Forcing the kilometeres high klaxo away as the white lion pierced into its body.  White metal fangs ripping off the black flesh of the klaxo, as other franxx from your squad rand towards the target. The lion pounced onto it's face clawing it's flesh gnawing away at it as it spat the flesh back out aggressively. Shaking off the lion it's tail transformed to black rings a beam of light residing as it grew within time, the lioness sprinted to it's beam creating one with the lash of her tail. Massive destruction of two beams emitted to create a percussion of dust sweep up from the mass of ground, flinging the lioness your direction. Breaking through to wall to slide on the ground as you ran in fear of your life falling flat on your stomach as dust blinded you, slurring to yourself "ngh.. I'm alive" . 

Just as you could see again, noticing a bleeding man lay on the floor breathing deeply, scampering towards him, tirelessly wailing "Hang in there!". Observant of him, to come to realize this was the man you saw at the pond, her 'partner'.  Disrupted by a female voice "He's done for, forget about him", it was zero two! Blood shot down her face from the top of her head, poised at the side of the doorway from the lion klaxosaur. Anxiously pressing your hand to the door after walking to her, "What are you doing in there zero two?".  Holding her body up she leaned on the doorway turning to sit back into the chair "I gotta go". Agitated, "You can't! You're hurt!" grabbing her bleeding arm, swiping you away. "Out of my way!" she shouted. Overwrought from everything "You're going to pilot all alone!?", her beautiful sincere look her pretty lips speaking "I'm going monster hunting ofcourse".  "Zero two this is insanity, besides, your by yourself now, you can't pilot a franxx alone", zero two spoke joylessly "I've always been alone, that's how it's always been, I'm used to it". Alarmingly stressing "No! You'll die!". Motionless eyes, etching her body in the piloting pit, determination in her words "I'm not afraid of death, when that thing starts moving again, we are all going to die anyway, so, I'm going". Powerless you felt as you stood helping no-one, your friends were fighting in their own franxx, because you didn't work with your partner. Here was your chance, take it.  Without thinking too deeply as you blurted "Wait! I'm not... about to let you go alone". 

Astonishment hit zero two her face left in awe, "I'll pilot the franxx with you zero two".  "Oh.. but are you prepared to die" an eerie aura fading from her soulless face. Your hand held to your chest as a sign of devotion "I don't know, but I don't belong anywhere as I am now, so to me, that's no different from being already dead, so" bawling with tears as you broke your sentence, insisting "take me with you!".  Handling the lid of the capsule her damaged frail body, her face enlightened "you really are like me, you and I are very similar, it's been a long time since I've seen a human cry, the look you have in your eyes". Her thumb wiped away your tear "It makes my heart race", widely spreading her hand and she smiled "now, come with me". Tightening her fingers around your hand pulling you up to her a captivating look in her eyes "let me get a taste of you, you are now my" her bewitching smile, sharp canine teeth like a vampire "darling".  Closing her eyes as her arms wrapped around your body embracing your lips against hers, butterflies fluttering in your stomach as your heart set to ease, pulsating at a fast pace, but comfortable where it was.
