Hush-- I am adrift

as the waves

whisper their empty lullaby

and I crack.

The searing sun has sucked

the lifeblood from my lips--

and bitter air carries the salty sting

of sorrows meant to drown.

Anchorless I am unbound

as gulls' cackles sound from on high

and clouds bleach the blazing sky

-- am I to stay unfound?
