"Addy come here baby we gotta talk."... those were the words that changed my life. "What cha need daddy.", I said walking towards my daddy while he sat by the window overlooking the field. He reaches  for me, sighlently asking me to sit with him as he did when I was little. "Daddy what's wrong?", I ask popping a squat on the arm of his chair. "Addy. I-Im... y-you... uh", he starts unable to firish. "Daddy?", I say my voice shaking with tears that threaten to fall. "Addy I'm sick.", he finally says just above a whisper. "Its ok daddy I'm here your gonna be fine.", I say starting to shake. Daddy pulls me into his lap and twirled one of my brown locks around his finger, like I'm a little girl again. "Naw baby doll I've only got a week.", he says kissing my hair. "No daddy your strong your gonna be ok, you have to be ok, you have to be there, daddy I need you, don't leave me your all I have.", I wimper into his shoulder. "I know baby I know but your not gonna be alone.", he says his voice shaking. I look up at him, "w-what do you m-mean daddy." A knock at the door cuts our conversation.

He gets up and walks to the door with me hot on his tail. He opened the door and a man a teenage boy with brown hair and eyes and his mother who looked like an older version of me stood there. "Daddy who are these people?", I say. "Your biological  mother and her husband and half brother.", he says. My head begins to swirl and I suddenly need air.

I take off through the back door to the barn were bo my mothers Clydesdale horse is waiting for me in the barn. I take him and gallop towards the open field  bareback. "Adaline Anastasia Taffy! Get the sam hell back here!", daddy calls after me when I ride past. My hat flies off my head to the waiting ground.

I loop the reins around a low hanging limb beside the little mineral pool. This is my spot, well actually mom's spot. Memories flood back to the days she would take me with her on bo to this little mineral pool. She'd bring her guitar  and a picnic lunch with us and sing me old Reba songs. "I don't know what in sams hill is going on momma. Why can't you be here.", i whisper to the water.

"Addy, honey please come on back.", a female voice says from behind me. I turn around and see the woman. "WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU HAVE ANY DAGUM RIGHT TO CALL ME THAT?!!??! I DON'T KNOW YOU.", I holler. I stand as she reaches me, "addy I know I'm never gonna replace your mom but I still want to be there for you. Please just let me." I look at her with a look that could scare a rattle snake. "Why?", I say my voice barely above a whisper. "Because your my daughter and I want to have the chance to make things right.", she says trying to sooth me. "I mean why now. Why suddenly now. Why in the world did you dagum come back. I don't need another mom and I will be fine when daddy-", I say cutting my words short before I finish. "Addy your dad is sick he's not gonna make it honey. He loves you and he don't want to leave you but he has no choice so instead of running away why don't you spend all the time you can with him.", she says and I want to slap her. A warm wind carries the smell of mint around me. Momma. I smile despite the pain I feel and I know momma agrees with her.

I give bo the kneel command so I can climb on him. He's too tall for me to climb otherwise. "How'd ya get down here ma'am?", I ask her. Before she can say anything our bobcat side by side zooms up with the rest of the crowd. The boy is driving it and gets a little to close and scares bo. "Easy bo your fine.", I sooth, as I cut a glare towards the boy. "Are you dagum touched or something boy?", I holler. "Addy be nice.", daddy commands, "come on home baby we need to talk about this." The boy gets off and cautiously walks towards me and bo, "he gonna bite" the boy asks. "Not unless he don't like you.", I say back. He come closer obviously trying to stay as far from his mouth as possible, "here's your hat.", he says. I bend to take it as he says, "that's a beautiful horse."
