It was the first day of eighth grade for Shawn and Todd. Todd made his way down the hall, weaving through groups of other students. He was never one to stop and chat before class, he wasn't a morning person by any means. He got to his first hour class and sat on one of the desks in the back of the room. He glanced at the small groups that had congregated around the classroom. Soon the bell rang and class started. The teacher introduced himself once all the students had chosen their seats. "Hello class. I'm Mr. Ogwanaga." He smiled at the class. The class was uneventful, mostly just getting to know the other students. Once Todd made it to his second hour he noticed someone right away, his friend from last year. Shawn. They hadn't talked much over the summer and Todd hoped that they hadn't grown too far apart. Shawn looked up from what he was writing in his notebook and saw Todd. He closed his notebook and waved to Todd, motioning him to come over. Todd walked over to Shawn's desk and leaned on it. "Hey" Todd smiled slightly. "How've you been?" Shawn asked with a small smile. "I've been good, and you?" Todd replied "better now that you're-- uhm. That I know one of my friends is in my my class.." he almost spat a pickup line at Todd. Todd was slightly confused about the obvious stutter in the middle of his friends sentence. He decided not to mention it and replied "heh. Yeah" he smiled at Shawn. Shawn smiled back. The bell rang and Todd took the seat next to Shawn and the teacher introduced herself and moved on with class. The first five hours of the day we're uneventful and soon it was lunch. Students flooded into the cafeteria. Todd and Shawn got their food and sat in their old spots which they were glad to see weren't taken. There were empty spots where their friends used to sit with them. Now that they think about it, they hadn't seen Emily or Briona all day. Not even during passing time. Soon Briona entered the cafeteria and sat with Todd and Shawn. They greeted her and Todd asked "have you seen Em at all today?" "She moved.", Briona said simply as she pulled out her phone. "She did? Why didn't I hear about that?" Todd asked. "I dunno. She texted you." She didn't look up from her phone. "Where'd she move to?" Shawn asked. "Arizona." Briona replied. "Arizona??" Todd asked "how come she didn't mention this in person?" He added. "She did." She looked up at him. "You just don't listen." She looked back down at her phone. "Oh.." he sighed "right." He looked down then back at her. "What's your schedule?" Shawn asked changing the subject. She handed him her schedule and he read through it. "We have two hours together." Shawn said as he handed her schedule back. "Hm." She hummed as she texted Emily about Todd ignoring her. "Em's mad at you." She said, glancing up at Todd then back at her phone. Todd huffed and threw his styrofoam lunch tray away. Soon the bell rang and Todd and Shawn headed to their sixth hour. They both had math with Ms.Pintek. They sat next to each other. Todd occasionally glanced at Shawn. Shawn glanced at Todd aswell. They admired the others features for the few split seconds they had to look at the other. Sixth hour soon was over and the two went to their seventh hour classes. Shawn didn't pay attention in class what-so-ever. He had been writing one thing over and over again in his notebook. He looked at the page covered in the words 'Shawn Biddis' he closed his notebook and scolded himself. He was straight. Both him and Todd. He was in denial. Soon enough school was over. He went to his locker and grabbed his things. Todd hadn't really ever used a backpack so he didn't now. He walked up to Shawn's locker and asked "you doin' anything later today?" Shawn thought for a moment then replied "not that I know of." "Wanna hang out?" He asked "ya know, to catch up?" He added "um.. sure" Shawn replied.
