1. Bets & Transfers Students
"Listen Kels," my cousin and, by some luck, best friend, Tamara, began. "I'm just saying, if he's gonna be joining us from now on, the least he could do is be polite."
I rolled my eyes, closing my locker. "He was just joking around Mara. Quit being so sensitive."
She scoffed, crossing her toned arms. "Joking? Sure. I am just saying, you better get that lil white boy before he gets his feelings hurt," she said, tossing her her black hair over her shoulder.
I shook my head at her, my hair falling into my face, and turned to walk toward our class. "And other than Liam, what else do you wanna complain about?" I gestured to an imaginary watch on my wrist. "We have about five minutes before class starts. Think you can fit a rant within that time?"
She gave me a droll stare to which I laughed and nudged her. "I'm only joking," I told her, pushing my hair behind my ear.
"Yeah, you and Liam are a real couple of jokesters. Talk about a match made in heaven, am I right?" Tamara commented, the sarcasm writing its presence in the air.
I grabbed my throat as we reached the door of the classroom. "Oh no," I wheezed. "Can't breathe. Sarcasm. Too thick." I coughed and wheezed before sticking my tongue out and playing dead.
Tamara pushed past me and into the room. "You should audition for the drama club," she said, her voice fading as she walked away from me.
I chuckled and followed behind her into the room. She grabbed a seat in the meet, and I plopped down next to her. "Y'know, I really should. I always knew I had a real talent for the theatrics."
"And you say I talk too much," Tamara said, examining her acrylic nails.
I chuckled, pulling out a notebook and a pen, before giving her a shrug. "What can I say. I'm in a good mood. Ooh! Let's see how long it lasts."
Tamara turned to me, a smirk stamped on her glossed lips. "I'm down for that action."
I raised a brow at her. "Oh? Alright then," I said, crossing my arms. "I say this good mood wears off by fourth block."
Tamara scoffed. "It won't make it past lunch," she countered.
"Bet?" I questioned, the smirk transferring from her lips to mine.
"Bet," she stated assuredly.
"And what do I get if I win?" I asked her.
"I'll buy your lunch for a week," she offered.
"A week?" I asked. "Make it two."
She rolled her eyes. "Fine. Greedy ass. And if I win?"
"Hmm," I voiced, tapping my chin. "I'll buy you a new set."
Her eyes shined in the moment. "Bitch, no way."
I gave her a smug nod. "Yep, a new set just for you."
"Just one though? I'm buying two weeks worth of lunch," Tamara countered, looking down at her currently deep red, coffin nails.
