Friday July 13, 1877:

Today felt like any normal day to me. The blazing sun rose above me as I walked down the road. Birds were swopping down by my head as they chirped looking for the worms to feed their younglings. I could smell the sweetness of summer in the air from the Honeysuckles. Bees buzzing from flower to flower, oblivious to my existence. Sweat trickles down my stubble cheeks onto my army uniform.

"Well that is not going to do." I stated aloud. No one but the animals were in ear range. I decided to take my shirt off so it was not more soiled. My wife already has enough chores from our three beastly boys. She does not need more from me. I could not wait to get home and to see my family. Play ball with the kids and hold my wife's' soft hands. The kids screaming and goofing off is a lot more welcomed then the bullets whizzing past my face. It has been a year since I last seen them. I can only imagine how much bigger the boys have gotten, especially my Jimmy. He may be the youngest, but he has a fire in his blue eyes that I have not seen since I was a young lad. It made my old heart beat with pride.

It is now sometime after eight o'clock. I know it because the sun if finally starting to set. The air became colder as the fog began to form. I could feel the goose bumps raise on my skin as I entered the wooded area. I redressed in my uniform jacket. The sounds and the landscapes change as the sun disappears. The chirping discontinued as the raging howl of the pack become more dominant. The beautiful forest has turned into shadows of twisted branches and trunks. I gasp as a frog jumps out in front of me. He stares at me deeply with his huge wide black eyes. Just staring at me as if he can see straight threw me. It is an unnerving feeling. I quickly walk away from the frog, glancing backwards to make sure it is staying there. I suddenly feel a pain in my foot as I realize I am falling down. My heart skips beats. My black laces fly in the air past my face as I tumble head first down a hill. I did not know where this would lead me, but it did not kill me. I finally stopped as my body collided with something hard. I opened my eyes to a dark twisted tree. The branches came down as if they were long fingers trying to grab me. I crawled backwards on my elbows and feet. After a few feet away, I placed my hand on my throbbing head. I realized my hat was no longer on my head. I could see it not too far from the tree. I stood up, dusted my uniform off, and then stumbled over to the tree. My bones creaking with each step I took. I had to place my hand on the tree in order to keep myself balanced as I picked the hat up.

As I dusted my hat off, I looked around my surroundings. I took a deep breath as I realized I had no clue where I was. I placed the hat between my arm and my body and limped away. I fought an evil witch and a ghastly spell to get here. I was not about to let evil woods prevent me from seeing the one I loved. I just wanted to feel her warm soft lips against mine. Feel her heart beat against my chest. Smell her hair after we had been making love next to the fire. The more I thought of everything that was awaiting me, the more determined I was to get home.

I do not remember much of the walk in the woods. A lot of it was stumbling my way in and out of consciousness. I can safely assume I hit my head hard a few times tumbling down that hill. After a few minutes of stumbling over fallen branches, I reached a pebbled walkway. As I swayed back and forth, I could see the edge of the woods. From afar, I assumed there must have been a streetlight because there was a bright light shining on a group of colorful flowers. The closer I walked I could not see any light post, but I could finally see the moon. It looked a lot closer than I have ever noticed it. It felt as if it was trying to search for me. I squatted down to take a closer look at the flowers. The red was as deep as an apple. The greens were as bright as the grass after a refreshing rain. The blue was as bright as the sky on the warmest day. They made me think of my wife's personality. Vibrant, brilliant, and made me smile from ear to ear. My friend, the moon, led me to those for a reason. I gently picked them, making sure not to ruin their beauty. I placed them close to my face to smell them as I closed my eyes. I could see my wife in my mind as their fragrance made me fell tingly all over. I could see the way her eyes crinkled in the corners when she smiled. I can hear her bubbly laughter at our boys as they tackle me when I walk in. I could feel her soft hands caress my face as her dark brown eyes mesmerized my soul. I opened my eyes to see that my pants were getting tighter.
