LIVING WITH ADHD
When I say we I am talking about people with ADHD including me and some family members.
ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
ADHD affects your brain in a way almost like someone who has drunk a red bull energy drink and has taken a caffeine tablet.
People with Adhd are hard-wired to be active we may not be normal but we are determined to do anything we set our mind to.
The best way to describe ADHD is a blizzard of sticky notes and a million people talking to you. When large groups of people are talking at once it causes a mental overload and some people with ADHD can just kind of shut down or be like me and get upset and nervous. We don't do it on purpose it is just a natural reaction to an overload. Most people have fight or flight we have fight or flight or freeze up and some people with it have another reaction and breakdown.
We are different from most people we can be nice one second and be rude the next second. ADHD isn't an illness it is "condition" we suffer from it doesn't go away and there is no cure for it we take medication for ADHD. It can last for years and for lifelong. Nobody knows exactly what causes ADHD. It is believed that three subregions of the prefrontal cortex, they are the attention, emotional responses, and the behavior and judgment parts of the prefrontal cortex.
People say we get distracted easily and that is true for the most part but we aren't the way people may think we are. We aren't going to be talking and just change the subject.
I have ADHD and can see something and get it stuck in my head and say it or type it instead of what I mean. We may have a hard time understanding and learning but we will, it just takes us a little while longer than others. We will just give us time and have patience we are slower.
With proper treatment and medications, ADHD can be suppressed but not cured. I am only one of many people who suffer from ADHD. ADHD can also cause sleep problems such as restlessness, can't fall asleep, and being tired the next day.
People who suffer from ADHD are prescribed medications such as Amphetamine/Dextroamphetamine or Adderall and Adderall XR, and Methylphenidate or Focalin and Focalin XR.
ADHD can be a curse and a blessing at the same time. ADHD has given some people an eye for detail. Some people with ADHD can see the differences between photos and see slight changes. Because of our high energy, we can work harder push further. I love cars that is my fixation. Most people with ADHD have a fixation on something. We are lawyers, singers, dancers, moms, dads, brothers, and sisters. We are just as capable of being successful people and anyone else. We are just like everyone else. Maybe you have ADHD maybe someone you love has ADHD.
