As we got into the pod to meet my soul mate, I knew it was all a lie. There is no way a system can calculate love. Love is a feeling. Not an equation.
My parents were very giddy during the ride. They were dying to get me out of their home but I'm not ready to leave. If this soul mate thing is true, why hasn't Jonah returned yet?
As we pulled into a parking spot my stomach lurched. I walked into the huge facility with wobbly knees and sweaty palms. The main room was ultra modern. The walls were such a bright white I thought they would hurt my eyes and floors so spotless they could be eaten off of. We walked down the great room to reach a woman on the other end.
"Hello, I am called Mika and I will be showing you to the room where you will be introduced to your soul mate. Here is how it will work. You will enter a room with three different glass cases. Each will hold a block of a different color. The color you choose determines who you would be most compatible with. Short and simple. Any questions?"
"Well, how does a color determine who I will enjoy spending the rest of my life with?" I replied with confusion.
"You are put with the boy who chooses the same color as you. Easy, simple, science."
How in the world is this considered an "advanced society?"
I walked into the room with as expected, three glass boxes with three colored blocks inside. Each next to a button that I'm assuming I press to lock in an answer. I circled the boxes once, then twice, trying to figure out what was actually going to happen. The three color choices were red, yellow, and blue. In my mind the three represented different things. The red for passion, yellow for happiness, and blue for trust.
I wouldn't pick passion. To be honest, serious affection like that really scares me. Obviously I've never been in a relationship before. I wouldn't pick happiness because it's so relative. To my soul mate happiness could be a completely different thing. So I guess that leaves me with trust. I cautiously walk over to blue and press the button firmly.
