Chapter 2

I woke up to my alarm and went to my bathroom. I washed my face and brushed my teeth while my music was blasted throughout my room and bathroom. I came out of my bathroom and got ready for school.

I grabbed my board and bag. When I came out of my room, I was immediately drawn to Lucy’s chocolate chip pancakes. Lucy gave me a plateful of her awesome pancakes and I quickly ate my food. I passed my plate to Lucy just as Mom came down.

I gathered my things and yelled out a quick ‘Bye Mom!’ before she could find any fault with me. I put Pandora on the pavement and rolled off to school. I reached school and used the wheelchair ramp and skated into school. I went straight to my locker. Lucky for me, our school had those long lockers, where you could fit in a spare change of clothes.

I put Pandora in and took out the books I need when Hudson appeared beside me.

“Hey Hud,” I said, closing my locker and giving him a fist bump. Hudson was my best friend since kindergarten. We had to pair up for some shit and me and Hudson were paired up. He was a really weird kid who always stuck his finger up his nose and smelling it. When I finally talked to him, I told him he was weird, but I liked him. We’ve been friends ever since.

Hudson’s childhood was pretty tough, but he never showed it. His parents used to fight all the time before his mom had had enough and kicked his dad out of the house. Now she owns a successful saloon. My thoughts were interrupted by my math teacher, Ms Spenser. She was the most annoying teacher ever. Not just because she had a shrill voice, but whenever she spoke, it was like sitting in the four front seats of Water World.

“Skyler, I need to speak with you,” She said, in her shrilly voice. You also need a spit controller, I thought. I followed her into her classroom, looking back at Hudson, giving him a ‘Save me’ look. He shrugged and walked off. Bastard.

“Sit down, Skyler,” Ms Spenser said, sending a shower of spit on the floor, barely inches reaching me.

I took a seat on the third row, to avoid being showered by her spit.

“Skyler, your grades are dropping.” She said. Wow, way to cut to the point.

“Wouldn’t be the first time, Miss,” I said, with a bored look on my face. I had heard this lecture one too many times.

“Yes, but if you fail my class, you won’t be able to graduate this year,” She replied, sending spit to the first row of tables.

Okay, that hit me like a ton of bricks. “What do you want me to do?” I said, keeping up my bored pretence.

“I’ve assigned you a tutor, after school at the library,” She said, tiredly.

Crap. I thought as she shooed me out the door. I was in really deep shit.

I walked into English class and sat next to Hudson, but not before slapping him at the back of his head.

“Idiot!” I hissed as I took my seat, “Why did you leave me alone with Spits-a-lot!”

“Sorry, sorry!” He said, raising his hands up in surrender, “What she want from you?”

“The old hag set me up with a tutor cus my grades were dropping,” I sighed and took out my English book.

Hudson couldn’t reply because right then, our English teacher, Ms Hale, walked in.

I was putting my books in my locker before heading to lunch when Griffin Lockwood came and leaned on the locker next to mine. Griffin Lockwood was my next door neighbor and one of the most popular guys in our school. He had everything, the looks, the brains, all the more reason for me to hate him. He had brown wavy hair which was messy in an ‘I-just-got-out-of-bed’ way but still made the girls swoon over him.
