"You're doing it again, Kaiya," my dad declared through the line of the phone. He already knew I was calling him in distress about something, before I even spoke... amazing. "Kai-Kai what's wrong? I told you it'll be ok..." he seemed to relax a bit on his end, as I explained to him what happened in an exact and vivid manner. "Oh my god Kai-Kai, I can't believed that happened to you" he replied with a weak shatter in his voice, almost as if he were thinking how could this happen to my baby? What he then conveyed made me realize the weight of my situation. "Kai, you are a strong, independent, loveable, black woman... and you can do this ok?... However, We live in a white man's world, so we still have to be cautious of our decisions " I nodded as if he were looking at me directly and continued listening to him. "Now I'm not saying we have to give into the white man or listen to what they have to say, but we do have to be cautious" He added to give me reassurance. "Ok daddy" I responded with such ardent desperation, wishing the conversation could last forever. Alas, he had military camp to teach. "Love you princess" he said before I heard that horrid clicking sound of the lines being disconnected from the simple touch of a button. Presence-wise I was alone again, terrified, but hopeful because I had God on my side at least. So I prayed, for my protection and safety, as well as for women all over the world . Especially, my favorite person in the world, my girlfriend Skylar.
