I had almost given up when out the corner of my eye I saw the long grass move on the very still day. Without a moments thought I pulled out my rifle, aimed and fired, I got it right in the eye, the best place possible. I sling my rifle over my shoulder and gallop towards my prey. At last, my first meal in three days. This woodland used to have a bountiful supply of food to satisfy my needs, but the ever growing demand to feed the hungry population resulted in my delight in catching this small mammal. Just as I get close I hear another rustling in the shrubbery, but this time more threatening. A huge dog leaps out and grabs my rabbit, I have no time to catch my breath let alone pull out my rifle to kill the beast.
I am sick of wandering around the lonely wasteland searching for food, which, in this case, just gets taken straight out of my hands. Of course I'm not the only one left here in the country, but the way its going I can't see us lasting much longer. We were supposed to be kept in the country to protect us, protect us from the vastly spreading disease that's infecting the whole world. No more transport in or out of the country which means no food getting shipped in. The farmers in this country couldn't cater for us all so they just gave up, simple as.
I hear all sorts of stories about what's happening in the bigger cities, I've always known to stay away from those filthy holes. Things have gotten so intense over there that they have not only eaten what used to be there pets but they've started on each other too. It can only be a matter of time before the whole country turns into a blood bath, I must get out before I'm the next victim. I've hears of a way out but its risky , very risky and if I get caught the punishment will be even worse than eaten alive.
Yet again I am set out on my journey in hope of food, water and hopefully a way out. Along my travels I find a traditional sort of village where the houses and everything else as it should, except very quiet. I've never seen anywhere so immaculate and clean since the new rule came into place. I peer into houses as I go past in hope of finding some people, watching their televisions, cooking food or just any general movement to show everything's normal and as it should be, but I know theres nothing to find, nothing to see because its not normal, not anymore.
I come to a cosy little house at the end of the street that is ideal to stay in, just until I am fully rested, after all, its been a long day so I'm sure it won't matter to stay there, just for a bit. I step inside and a faint whiff of muskiness suddenly comes to me, its a rather sickening smell and its enough to drive anyone out the house but part of me seemed pretty adamant to stay. I find myself rummaging through the abandoned kitchen cabinet searching for any scrap of food that could be left. All I find is a nearly empty packet of pasta but with no electricity it looks like I'll be eating them dry. After munching my way through the teeth breaking pasta I decide to retire to the bedroom for the rest I've been needing. As I walk to the room I notice the muskiness gets stronger and stronger. I find the room where it is coming from and push the door wide open. To my sheer horror I see a teenage girl about my age staring up at me with her pale white face as a dead body lays next to her.
