I screamed. Loudly. Not that it mattered. No one could hear me anyway. It was just me. Me and.... and him. This man. I didn't know him, or why he was targeting me, or why he was doing this. I screamed again, louder this time. I thought for sure that at least someone might hear me and call for help. He came closer. I was forced to back into a corner. Closer. Closer still. He started to remove his shirt and continued to come closer to me. My shaking legs could no longer support me, and I collapsed. I accepted what was bound to happen, and tried to shut everything out.
"Please," I whimpered, "Please leave. Stop." He didn't seem to care. He pressed himself on top of me, and I could smell his rancid breath. He was about to do something else, but his body went limp. I screamed once more and started sobbing. I covered my face with my hands and pulls my knees up to my chest.
"Shhh, it's okay. It's okay," a soft, feminine voice purred, "I'm here. He's out cold. You're safe now. I'll take care of you." I looked up and saw her. She had dark skin, black hair, and stunning green eyes. She smiled kindly at me and offered her hand. I allowed myself to be pulled off the ground by my savior, and she warmly embraced me.
"Let's get you out of here, okay? Can you tell me where you live? What's your name?" She questioned
"M-Mariana," I quietly answered, "I don't have a house. I live in an old motel that lets me stay free of charge. It's hardly a home."
"I'm Rhea. You can stay at my place. You can use my shower and change into some extra clothes. Let's go."At Rhea's House
I quickly got into the shower and scrubbed my entire body with soap. I wanted to forget what had happened. I told myself that I would calm down as the water went down the drain. I got out and Rhea greeted me with some comfortable looking pajamas. She went into the kitchen as I got dressed.
"What kind of drink do you want? I have tea, cocoa, coffee, water. Apple juice?" Rhea kindly asked.
"Water would be perfect."
"Coming right up. There's a fuzzy blanket on the couch you can use. Anything here is welcome for you to use. You can be my roommate! I'd have to get another bed though..."
She cane out of the kitchen holding a cup of water. Rhea looked like an angel. Maybe it was because she had just saved my life, or maybe it was her acts of kindness. Whatever it was, she was beautiful.
"Thank you," I said, staring deep into her eyes. I took a big sip and put the glass down. I reached over and hugged her tightly. "I can't thank you enough for what you did. I owe you. I'll sleep on the couch."
"Nonsense! You've been through a traumatic experience and deserve to be the most comfortable you can be."
"No, you saved me. And you're letting me stay in your home. You sleep in your own bed. This couch is comfortable anyways."
"No, you take the bed."
I bit my lip and thought for a second. "Fine. We'll both take the bed. Neither of us can agree, so let's quit the fighting and both sleep on the bed."
Rhea looked a little bit stunned, but only for a second, "Okay. Do you like the left side or the right side?"
"Left."
"I'll take the right then, I guess."
"Okay, I'm tired. I'm going to bed. Goodnight."
"I'll come too, I guess. Let me get into pajamas."In Rhea's Bed
We faced away from each other. It seemed awkward. I could tell she wasn't sleeping. I turned to face her, and found she did the same.
"You're kinda cute," Rhea said to me, and then blushed.
"Thanks. I think you're kinda cute too..."
Slowly, she reached towards me and grabbed my hand. I excepted to pull away, but I didn't.The End
Author's Note: I changed the ending because I didn't like how it played out. This ending leaves imagination to the reader while still providing canonical romance. Sorry if you don't like the changes.
