It's raining heavily. The streets of Mumbai are flushed with rainwater. People are seen running here and there for shelter, irritated due to the sudden outpours. While some children were enjoying playing in the rains.
A boy in his early twenties is seen standing near the window of his apartment, witnessing the hustle bustle of the streets below. With a cup of coffee in his hand, he's enjoying the rain droplets falling on his face, giving him the feeling of peace, sukoon. The boy is our very own Neil Khanna.
Neil was enjoying the blissful feeling of the pure water droplets falling on his skin. He was never a fan of the rains. But some things do change overtime or should I say, do change due to some person. And then, his eyes fell on the children playing football on the streets. And again, some memories flashed in his mind. Her memories.
"It's her..... again. Why do I keep remembering her? She's dead, long gone. We were not even close, so why her memories have still occupied my mind? Memories which are neither good nor bad. How do I flush these memories out of my mind??!!" a frustrated Neil talked to himself.
Flashback
Neil, as usual, was playing with his friends Rohan, Karan, Niraj, Arjun and some more in his society. Football was one of their favourite games. And their daily evening activity was fixed: football match.
"Rohan.....pass the ball dude...we have to win" yelled Neil.
"Just 5 mins are left in the game and the scores are levelled" he added, his competitive spirit at it's peak.
After getting hold of the ball, Neil dodged his opponents and kicked the ball, straight into the goal post, scoring a perfect goal. And then, Neil and his team members started doing their typical winning dance, irritating the others.
Arjun was frustrated seeing Neil's nuisance and he kicked the ball with full force outside the ground. The ball rolled down towards the society's entrance. Neil laughed seeing his friend's antics. He ran towards the entrance to bring the ball back. Then, his eyes travelled towards the stranger standing at the entrance. A girl.
The girl, hardly of 14-15 years, was wearing shorts and a t-shirt, giving her a tomboyish look. Her eyes were almond shaped, with a sparkle in them and her hair was tied in a ponytail. She walked in with the ball in her hands. Neil looked at her for a while and then noticed the ball in her hands.
"Hey girl, pass the ball" Neil demanded to her. "Are you'll playing football?"she asked with a little excitement. "Well, we can't play cricket using that ball, right?!" he taunted her. A bit annoyed by his statement, but still she blurted out "Can I join you all? Can I play with you all?"
"First of all, we don't play with girls. You should probably join the other girls who are always busy talking about makeup or some juicy gossips I guess. Moreover, I don't think you have any knowledge about this game" Neil answered smirking. Now the girl's cheeks had heated up due to anger after listening to him.
"Ohh plzz, I don't have any interest in doing those typical girly things. And who are you to tell me what I should do? And how can you say that I don't have any knowledge about football? Are you any antaryaami??" the girl argued .
As Neil had not returned for a while and they saw there was some gadbad going on near the entrance, Neil's friends turned up to find out what was going on. They all saw Neil talking with a girl or rather arguing with the girl. "Hey Neil, what's the matter bro?And who is she?" asked Karan.
"Ohh so this arrogant boy's name is Neil, khadoos kahika!" the girl talked to herself. "Hello everyone, I'm Avni....Avni Mehta, I'm new in this society" she answered. Yes, the girl was none other than Avni. "Can I play with you all?" she asked again, but to others. "Well, I told you, No is the answer" Neil answered rudely. "Hey Mr .Arrogant, I'm not talking to you, I'm asking them" she said pointing to the other boys. Now, it was Arjun's turn to irritate Neil. He had seen how Avni had annoyed him. "Why not?! Sure, you can play with us. Even if you don't know how to play, I'll teach you" Arjun smiled at Avni and winked looking at Neil.
"But..." Neil was about to protest but the others continued "yes, you could surely join us and we can be friends too". "Thank you " said Avni happily. "Oh hello, first let us see do you really know to play?" a hyper Neil mocked her. Karan said "Let it be bro, let her....." and Avni interrupted " I can play.....Let's see...I challenge you...a one on one match. What say Mr. Arrogant?"
