Chapter one
I drive my 3 year old girl, Peyton home from preschool when the rain clouds decided to burst. Just my luck, I guess. The radio is on but you can barely hear the music through the static because of the raindrops which were almost as big around as my thumb. Typical weather in Oregan either sunny or rainy or both.
Peyton is talking my ear off about how much fun she had today. So yes, it's a typical week day. Except for one thing my husband just taking off and I can see the worried look in Peyton's eyes when she askes where he is each night. The best thing I can possibly do is let Peyton know how much I love her and that I am always here for her.
Finally I turn the last curb and see my house. Yeah, the one with all the memories of Peyton's daddy. Peyton points her little finger out the window telling me about Sassy sitting in the window, waiting for us. I got Sassy shortly after my husband left one month ago because he was always saying he hated dogs when I've wanted one forever.
I pull into the garage free from the rain, grabbing my purse, and my little preschooler inside. Sassy runs to greet us with a yip and a chase of her tail. Peyton plays with Sassy while i prepare dinner. Just watching my daughter and Sassy play around, I know that Peyton loves her like a best friend.
As I chop veggies up, Peyton so innocently holding her teddy bear asks, "When is daddy coming back?" My hand holding the knife slips and slides into my top layer of skin allowing blood to begin escaping from the careless slip. "Oh crap!" i say rummaging around for a bandaid, i put a bandaid on it and lift Peyton up. "I don't know honey?"
I sit Peyton and I at the table both of us eating dinner but it's clear for both of us that someone is missing.
Chapter two
After dinner, I battle Peyton into getting her pajamas on. As we watch TV together, i look at my Peyton sleeping cuddled next to me and I think; I just want to give Peyton the best life ever. I carry her to her room and tucked her into her bed. I pause as i glance around her room remembering all the good times me and Brian had; had while decorating her bedroom when we were expecting her. We wanted our little princess to have a princess room. I give Peyton a goodnight kiss and I walk across the hall to my bedroom.
I finally get a moment of some shuteye when the phone rings. Oh what kind of idiot would be calling at 2AM. I mean that's when normal people sleep, not get up and louge around.
"Hello" Of course Brian, he is a idiot!
"Yes." I say not very amused.
"I would like to tell you that I'm remarried and the divorce papers are in the mail." Brian says in a very drab monotone.
"Oh well thanks." I say very sarcasticly.
"Oh and you don't have to wory about custody. I signed away my parental rights and I don't want to see Peyton."
"Oh my gosh, you are the biggest jerk I have ever meant! You know what Peyton has been missing you and aking about you. But I don't even want you to see her!" I hung up the phone still in a rage. Oh boy, I can't believe him. He doesn't want to see Peyton. Well then, Peyton is going to have the best mommy ever.
"Mommy." I look up and see Peyton in my doorway.
"Hey Sweetie." I say as I pick her up wondering what I'm going to tell her.
"Mommy, who you yell at?"
"Oh daddy's mad at mommy forever."
"Is he coming back?" She said so innocently with her big brown eye. It almost hurt to tell her the truth. "No honey. I'm sorry. But I love you so much!" I said hugging her.
