"June.", Morgan's voice whispered into my ear. I could feel him gently shaking me. "What is it Morgan?", I groaned. "You have to wake up silly. It's a Saturday.", he said. I knew what that meant. It was scavenging day. My eyes slowly fluttered open.

The bright rays of the Sun pierced into the "palm-house", which was made of palm trees. I got up and walked towards the cove. It was filled with all wonders. It was beautiful. I stripped off my simple white gown and dove into the pool of water.

After bathing myself, I wrapped a white sheet around my body and folded it inside my chest. "Morgan.", I called out. All I had gotten in return was an echo. "Boo.", I fall to the sand. I cross my arms and glare at Morgan, "No fair!". He bursts into laughter.

I shove his legs towards the sand and he tumbles next to me. I laugh. "You!", he shouts narrowing his icy blue eyes at me. I smile at him. He rolls his eyes and starts to help me up. "Come on.", he says. I sigh and follow him into the tropical forest.

I yawn, "Morgan, I'm still tired.", I whine. "Well June, if we don't gather food then we won't be able to celebrate your sixteenth birthday tomorrow.", he states with excitement in his tone. My eyes widen, "I completely forgot.", I laugh at myself.

Morgan sighs, "You're going to have much more responsibilities June. Take me for example, I'm eighteen and already taking care of us.", he puffs his chest out heroically and stands on a tree branch. I roll my eyes and push him off of the branch.

"Morgan, we have to visit Grandma Cleo.", I state while going for another scoop of coconut. Grandma Cleo wasn't really our grandma, but she was the only other person who lived on the island. She's been helping us out ever since we got stranded.

"Did you think I'd forget?", he says confidently. I roll my eyes and climb up the bamboo ladder. I lay down in my little nook. I started to stare at the moonlight shining through the open hole. It was gorgeous.

I laid in next to Morgan, sleepless. I decided to go for a midnight walk on the beach and maybe pay a short visit to Grandma Cleo if she was still awake. I climb down the ladder until my feet reach the silky sand. I smelt the salinity in the air.

I walked all the way to the far left of the island. That's where Grandma Cleo's shack was. The lights were on, I assumed that she was awake. I opened the door silently, it was always open. "Grandma?", I whispered. "June.", her deep voice called out.

I found her sitting on her rocking chair. Her favorite book, "Emma", by Jane Austen in her lap. I kneeled beside her and smiled. "Hello, Grandma Cleo.", I said politely. "June, child what are you doing up so late?", she asks while shifting her glasses upwards.

"I can't sleep, is there anything that you may possibly need help with?", I ask intertwining my fingers with hers. "I could use a little company I suppose.", she insists. I nod. "June, your birthday is tomorrow.", she states. "That's correct.", I said.

"May I say a few words right now?", she asks. I nod. "You're turning sixteen darling. You will become a grown adult soon. I want you to reflect on how your life has treated you so far, what can you do to change it?", is all she says. I nod promising myself to think about it once I get back to the "palm-house".

"Thank you Grandma.", I kissed her soft forehead and hugged her. I then walked out and back onto the beach. I sat in front of the salty waves. Thinking about what Grandma Cleo had said. What has my life been like? I think. I know there is more for me to discover than just this island, I've listened to Grandma Cleo talk about this place called America. It's where she was born.

She said people who go there have dreams to accomplish. I took a deep breath, I have a dream to accomplish, it was to make something out of myself. I bit my nails, but what would I say to Morgan? He'd probably think I'm crazy. I sigh and start walking back to the "palm-house".

I lay next to Morgan and close my eyes, letting my mind drift away into nothing.
