Bellamy tried to steady his racing heart as he followed Lincoln into the hut. Clarke was already shouting orders and seemed like she had everything under control. He knew she would be nervous but his princess didn't let it show. She kept a straight face as she collected rags and bottles from various areas of the room.
"What happened to him." She asked as Lincoln laid the man on the table.
"Arrow. We don't know if it's poisoned or not." Lincoln said. He was out of breath from running with the extra weight. Bellamy admired how the once grounder refused to give up on him.
"Okay. I have to take it out. Roll him on his side, and get ready to hold him down." Clarke ordered. She took a deep breath and gripped the arrow. She snapped the head off, which was poking out his back. Then, she moved around to his front and slowly started pulling. It slid out easily but the man started to buck and wiggle at the pain.
"Hold him still!" Clarke yelled.
"How did he get hit?" Octavia asked. She hadn't left Lincoln's side and Bellamy could see their disagreement from that morning was forgotten.
"He jumped in front of Bellamy." Murphy answered.
Clarke looked up at him sharply. Their eyes connected and Bellamy didn't miss the flash of anger on her face.
"Wow. Twice now you've avoided death by arrow." Clarke spat.
Shit.
Octavia gave him an apologetic look from beside Lincoln and he nodded saying he accepted the apology.
"Is he gonna be alright?" Finn asked, breaking the silence.
"I don't know yet." Clarke said. She didn't look up from cleaning the wound. Bellamy could see her hands shaking slightly and guessed it was more out of anger than nerves. Clarke had done this enough times, she didn't need to be nervous.
"Who is he anyway?" Octavia asked.
"He's a friend of mine. His name is Jared. He's helped me many times before." Lincoln sighed. "He was helping us find the bunker, keeping an eye out for us. We didn't even make it that far when they burst out of the trees. Jared noticed them first and he pushed Bellamy into the trees as the arrows came."
Clarke glanced up at Bellamy and he saw the moment her eyes finally registered the small cut on the side of his head. Everyone remained silent as Clarke started to stitch the wound on Jared's side. The whole time Bellamy watched her. His princess. She was the perfect example of a good leader. She was strong, she was brave, she kept a level head in times of panic and despair. She kept him grounded. Bellamy needed Clarke. No matter how angry she got at him, he needed her.
"All done." Clarke said out loud as she placed a bandage over the fresh stitches.
"Is he going to be alright?" Lincoln asked.
"He should be. We'll know more when he wakes up." Clarke smiled.
"Thank you." Lincoln said quietly as he gave Clarke a quick hug.
Clarke nodded and instructed the men to move Jared to a comfier bed over by the wall. Soon the only people remaining were Lincoln, Octavia, Clarke and Bellamy. Lincoln demanded that he stayed with Jared so he wasn't alone when he woke and Clarke nodded her agreement. Octavia stayed with Lincoln, being his source of comfort. Eventually Clarke turned to Bellamy.
"Come on, let's check that head of yours." She sighed and led him to the metal table.
"I'm fine." Bellamy argued but Clarke gave him a stern look and Bellamy sighed, hopping onto the table.
