It was not possible.

Laia was sitting on her balcony, back against the wall, knees tucked into her body. Earlier, she had been sitting on her bed. That didn't sound like such a big deal, but what happened while she was there was far out of the ordinary. Her parents had left for work, and she had been alone at home.

She had been reading her manga (as per usual), when suddenly this snow white kitten appeared in front of her, licking her hand as if it were trying to comfort her. When she looked at it, it looked up at her with such an adorable, saddened gaze!

That kitten had definitely not been there before, and Laia didn't know when it appeared. Much less how it got in her house and why it was licking her. Even though she loved cats, that didn't mean she wouldn't be shocked when one randomly appeared out of nowhere and starting trying to comfort her!

And to add to that strangeness a voice seemed to be calling to her. But no matter how hard she tried, she could never grasp it. It was nagging her, and she was clenching her fists in frustration.

But she still couldn't make any sense of it.

A knock came from the front door. Laia frowned. Who could it be?

She decided to ignore it. The only people who would need to knock were always those door-to-door salesmen. She continued to stare absently at the sky.

The knock came again, louder this time. She wanted to shout "Go away!" but that would give away the fact that she was here. The knocker would soon come to the conclusion that no one was home, and they would just move on.

But the knocking continued.

Laia stayed where she was.

After a while, the knocking stopped.

Finally! A smile touched her lips.

Not too long later, the flapping sound of fabric caught her attention. Her head snapped up, her eyes meeting a woman's. She leapt backwards—well, at least tried to. The wall she was leaning against stopped her from going very far. "Who are you?"

The woman smiled, gentle and caring. "I apologize for scaring you. You didn't answer when I knocked."

"You didn't answer my question. Who are you?" Laia asked, annoyance coating her tone.

The woman had golden-coloured hair and the same-coloured eyes. She had a dress on, a white one that resembled that of a goddess. There was an almost ethereal glow to her. "I am Headmistress Zaretha Steros of the Enchantrix Academy for the Gifted, and I'm here to explain to you everything you need to know."

"Woah woah woah, slow down there," Laia said. "I am not here to hear a random ad of a random school."

The "headmistress" smiled, eyes lighting up with silent laughter. "Come, I'll show you."

What do you mean by show—" Laia was cut off when the woman took her hand and the world blurred.

They stood on the bottom of a cliff, right beside a rushing waterfall. The water was a clear turquoise colour, and the place smelled like flowers and fresh air.

"Woah," Laia breathed in awe.

"Yes, quite the extraordinary sight, isn't it?"

When Laia heard the woman's voice, she snapped out of her initial awe. "What was that?! How did we get here so quickly? Who are you? What do you want? Why did you bring me here? What's your purpose?"
