"Never assume unless otherwise stated."
This is the note I doodled in one of our accountancy lessons. Ito rin ang linyang paulit ulit na sinasabi ng propesor namin sa nagdaang tatlong buwan ng semester, that accounting is recording and analyzing in a systematized and strategic manner and that all details should be defined, hindi pwedeng pa-feel feel lang, or yung assumptions mo lang. Funny how this principle is very applicable in real life. If only this was already taught in grade school, I could have learned better and could have saved myself from something so bad.
"Fim, I'm sorry pero walang tayo."
That statement resonated again in my mind because of this accounting principle. The most hurtful statement in my whole 19 years. The most shameful moment I ever experienced. And that moment which keeps on coming back is making my review for the mid-year examination very difficult. Confirmed, I am totally not over him yet. Or maybe, not with him but with the what-could-have-been.
"Beeeeeeeeeepppppp"
My hurting thoughts were interrupted when I realized the harsh beeping of the cars that are behind me. Kanina pa pala green light and medyo ang tagal kong tumunganga sa notes ko na yun. Nagnanakaw ako ng review while driving going to the arena to watch a basketball game. I so want to curse my PE teacher for imposing this basketball game a mandatory thing to watch. It's the Finals game between my school and the neighboring school and my PE teacher being a supportive girlfriend of the basketball coach, asked us to watch the game and support the team, in exchange, we could cancel out two swimming styles for our practical exams. Pwede din naman daw na hindi manuod pero advantage na din for me kasi hirap talaga ako sa butterfly stroke, so kahit hindi ko thing manood ng inter-collegiate basketball games, might as well watch and support my bestfriend Gabriel who's playing for the other team.
It was already part 6 in the evening when I reached the arena, the game was supposed to start at 4 PM but I knew there will be ceremonial activities so I'm confident may maabutan pa ko. And luckily, it was break time before going into the final quarter. I headed down to where my reserved seat was. Gabriel gave me the ticket when he knew I was coming and reserved me seat na medyo malapit sa kanila. I'm in the second row after the players' bench but unfortunately, nag change courts na and my seat was already opposite to where Gab's team are.
I'm wearing a maroon cropped top, fitted denim skirt, white shoes and a small sling bag, plus my reviewer notes. I'm easily identifiable as someone from the school supported by people wearing maroon and medyo awkward na I'm seated sa area na halos naka blue lahat, the color of the opposing school.
Both of the teams were busy discussing most probably their game plan for the final quarter and all the players were focused sa coaches nila but Gabriel saw me and hurriedly went to my area.
"Hey Fim! Buti naabutan mo. Thought you would not show up anymore!" hinihingal nyang bati while he was wiping his sweat.
And as if hindi pa awkward na I'm wearing maroon in the sea of blue, dinagdagan pa ni Gabriel, a player in blue and white, when he talked to the supporter of team in maroon. I am beyond aware that enough pairs of eyes are staring at me with what Gabriel did. My bestfriend is a good-looking, sporty guy and I know these girls looking at me are his fans.
"Yeah. I promised to support you. Go back to your team now."
Gabriel just threw a bang sign to acknowledge what I said and bumalik din naman agad sa team nya coz it's 30 seconds before 4th quarter would start. I heard squeals from the girls at the back and syempre slight curses for me, kung sino daw ba ako and why their crush talked to me. Girls, chill. I'm no harm to your fantasies to Gabriel.
