Chapter 1

If the lights were any brighter, I swear I'd be blind, countdown from five began and the audience applause. Margaret Middle who sits opposite me smiles widely and begins speaking.

“Welcome to Book Buddies, I'm Margaret Middle and today we are joined by a very special person; at age twenty four she became the youngest person to top the New York Times Best Seller list with her stunning novel 'In times like these' Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome Angie Kingston,” the audience stand up and cheer.

“Angie, thank you for coming on,”

“Thank you for having me,” I reply.

“Lets begin with the title of the book....'It's times like these,' how did you come up with it,”

“I don't know really, I've always been quote lover; literally I have so many quotes stuck on my bedroom walls,” the audience chuckles.

“But it's true, like all the quotes I have are special to me in a certain way and people who I admire who speak them or have spoken them – I like to write them down and stick them on my bedroom wall for inspiration I guess and...positivity and I guess I just saw the quote and it spoke to me,” I finish my sentence and the lady and audience are quite.

“Can you tell us, which quote it is?”

“Sure, it's by Paul Harvey and it goes something like this....'In times like these, it helps to recall that there have always been times like these,' and I guess it just kinda spoke to me in a way...just as the suffering Mason goes through – he's not the first and last person to have been in that situation but I think...as I try to portray in the book through Mason's character and Ava's as well is that...no matter what situation you're in; whether your the first, second or the millionth, things will be better because you're not alone and you have someone to walk with you by your side and if you remember 'there have always been times like these,' people get through it – they overcome these things, maybe not in the way you expected but in the way it was meant to happen.”

If I said the lady and the audience were quite before, well they're dead silent now – the lady looks at me in...astonishment.

“Wow,” she says.

“Do you yourself believe things are meant to be?”

“Yes I do, I'm a firm believer in that, my mum always taught me that everything happens for a reason – whether you know it or not...but it does,” I answer back to her.

“Okay, lets move on to the plot of the book – when I read the book I didn't know what to say; I mean all I could think was Wow and that I had to get you on my show as soon as possible,” she laughs.

“Now we know that Ava and Mason are based on real people that you knew – you've admitted that, can we know who these people were to you and how you found out about their story?” she looks at me eagerly waiting for an answer....aright Angie this is where you have to be careful.
