"Vance Hyland,

Calista Stoyer,

Gavin Llewellyn,

Rosette Cayne,

William Lavanchy,

Carol Marcus,

Donovan Quintan,

and Jane E. Kirk,

As of today you have all been assigned to the USS Enterprise. You will reprise the roles of those who lost their lives due to the misfortunate events of the ships last mission. I hope you accept these roles in honour of those who last fulfilled them. You will be briefed of your station and the ships mission once aboard. Please provide transfer orders aboard the shuttle to the enterprise for the ships records. The first shuttle leaves for the Enterprise in 10 minutes. Thank you, that is all."

"Jane! Isn't this great? We're gonna be working together, on the Enterprise!" Rosette Cayne, Jane's bestfriend from the Starfleet Academy, was making her way through the crowd towards Jane.
It had been 4 years since Jane and Rose had both joined the Academy in aim to be assigned to a Starfleet ship. Jane was happy to have graduated and finally been assigned to a ship. Any ship, let alone the Enterprise, the actual USS Enterprise! Jane was thrilled and over whelmed. The only worry she had was that people might think that she only got assigned to the Enterprise because her brother James T. Kirk, was the Captain of the Starship.
Jane and James got along very well, they were close, closer than most siblings and she was glad to have such a good relationship with her brother but she was worried about how protective he was.
When she was young, from her early teenage years and up until she joined the academy, she rarely had any boyfriends which was the complete opposite of her brother. The reason behind her lack of relationships was down to James warning them all off.
Jane joined the StarFleet Academy when she was eighteen and was only a year below her brother in the Academy, despite actually being three whole years younger than him. During her first two years at the Academy Jane was barely able to be seen talking to guys from her class or James would put on his big-bad-brother pants. However during her third year at the Academy her brother joined the crew on board the USS Enterprise, unofficially, having been snuck on board by his best friend Dr. Leonard McCoy who refused to leave behind his supposed sick patient. James' departure into space meant that he was no longer able to supervise her every move.
Jane was happy for her brother when he became the Captain of the Enterprise afterwards, but it meant that he was in space a lot more than he was on earth and she missed him. Since their Father died when they were both young and their Mother was always working off Earth, James became her parent figure that protected her and she was immensely grateful for it. Their mother remarried but neither Jane nor her brother could call themselves a massive fan of their Mothers choice of a second husband. He wasn't the worst guy ever but any short amount of time spent around him was too long. In truth, no one compared to their Father and neither Jane or her brother could stomach the idea of someone trying to fill his shoes. In order to get away from her stepfather, Jane left Iowa when she was 15 and moved to California to stay with her Aunt before she joined the StarFleet Academy. James turned eighteen shortly after Jane moved and left home too.
Jane had always knew she would join StarFleet. She wanted to explore the universe and study Astronomy which she became fascinated with as a child after her Mother told her that "Daddy worked among the stars". James on the other hand was reluctant to join because of their Father's death that came around because of his loyalty to Starfleet. However after her brother met the late Admiral Pike, then Captain, he was persuaded to begin a new chapter of his life at Starfleet. Jane was so proud of her brother and what he had accomplished and knew her Father would be too.

"Hey aren't you excited? Rose asked.

"Yeah, I'm just a little anxious." Jane explains.

Rose gives her friend a cautious and concerned smile, "I know what you're thinking Jane, you got the assignment because you are extremely bright and the best astronomer to come out of that Academy in God knows how long! Not because your brother is the Captain. Okay?"

"Yeah thats my brother. The famous Captain James T. Kirk." Jane says, in an attempt to lighten the conversation.

"He's cute, I like him." Rose joked, changing the subject from Jane's paranoia to her brothers supposed cuteness.

"Of course you would!" Jane gave her friend a disapproving look, it was hard to come across a girl who didn't find her brother attractive. Girls in her class at the Academy would always act like they wanted to be her friend, but in reality they just wanted to get with her brother.

"Attention. The shuttle for the USS Enterprise leaves in five minutes."

"Come on Jane, we can't miss the shuttle!" Rose called out, as she began to make her way through the crowd.

Jane followed her friend to the shuttle and got in line waiting to board.

5 years in space, the final frontier, to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life, new civilisations and to boldly go where no one has gone before.

Jane only hoped she didn't get home sick.
