"just sit still!" eleven pleaded.

"i don't like it." the redhead whined as the short haired girl applied the powder on her face. the substance almost made max choke as it traveled down her throat.

"i'm almost done." eleven smiled. the group would attend their first high school party tonight and eleven had the brilliant idea of doing max's makeup, against max's will of course. eleven applied the last bit of blush. "lipstick?"

"no way, hopper."

"it would look really pretty."

after a few minutes of the two bantering, max finally let in. she shuddered at the pink tacky gloss as soon as she felt it on her lips. eleven gestured the girl to smack her lips, but max opposed, in fear that her lips would be stuck together. "stop being ridiculous." el muttered.

eleven offered max one of her own dresses because she didn't exactly own any. she held up a tight black dress for the other girl as she chose hers. the redhead eyed it hesitantly before taking it. she slipped into the dress and stared in the mirror. max felt like an entirely different person.

max twirled around to examine herself. she wondered if it was too revealing, as the dress stuck to her figure, but eleven assured her she looked fine. it was now around 10 p.m and they would meet the boys in half an hour.

max looked at the clock practically shaking up and down. "are you sure about tonight?"

"why wouldn't i be?" eleven asked, slipping on her heels.

"this is our first party and we're sneaking out." she said. this would be the first time the group would step out of their usual social setting which could either go totally right or horridly wrong. with max's luck, it would likely turn out for the worst.

"it's not like we haven't snuck out before." eleven replied, getting a look of uncertainty from her friend. the brown haired girl sighed and smiled softly. "hey, relax we're gonna be fine." she said, draping an arm around the girl's shoulder. "if we don't like it we could leave early."

max nodded, hoping her friend was right. the girls slipped out of eleven's house after they finished getting ready. with their luck, hopper was working late that night and no suspicion would arise in max's house since she was spending the night at eleven's.

about fifteen minutes later they arrived at at the house of some upperclassman the two didn't know. music could be heard from down the street and it was surprising the cops hadn't already come.

max latched onto eleven's arm as they made their way through the front door. the change in atmosphere was immediate. the room was extremely stuffy and the girls could feel their chests tighten. they looked around the room, smiling at a few unfamiliar faces until eleven spotted their friends.

"there they are!" eleven shouted, dragging the girl behind her. they pushed past a few bodies, max muttering excuse me's as eleven walked right through.

the boys cleaned up nicely, apart from their usual khaki pants, plaid shirt combo. max could immediately feel the boys look her up and down, including mike who usually never gave her a second glance.

"wow max." lucas grinned.

"you both look really nice." will said.

"thanks." she said softly.

mike stood completely silent apart from the rest of the group. max expected it.

"i'm gonna get a drink." mike said, walking past the girl.

"me too, anyone want one?" lucas asked.
eleven nodded and followed the boy. the rest of the three stayed put.

"looking good mad max." dustin pointed out. he rolled his tongue against the roof of his mouth, doing his signature chewy impression.
