Jane found Rose standing by the check-in desk where the newly assigned Cadets were supposed to pick up their new rota and the code to their living quarters.
"Well I'm stationed in the main Medical Bay five days a week with Saturday and Sunday's off. What about you?" Rose handed Jane a piece of paper. "Here I got your rota when I got mine, you were too busy talking to that guy. Who is really good looking by the way. Who was he?" Rose hinted.
"He's my brother's best friend, who is practically like another big brother." Jane explained. "I've know him as long as I've been at the Academy. I cant believe I've never introduced you to him before!"
"Yeah neither can I." Rose replied.
"He's all yours! By all means fire away." Jane gestured in the direction shed last seen McCoy walk off, "However it may be kind of awkward considering he is your boss."
"My boss? How?" Rose asked looking confused.
"Dr. Leonard McCoy. Chief Medical Examiner." Jane cited.
"That was Dr. McCoy?" Rose asked which garnered a simple nod from Jane. "No way! I mean I knew that Dr. McCoy was the Chief Examiner but I didn't think he'd be so handsome!"
"Well now you know. You can drool over him all day at work!" Jane teased.
"Very funny Jane! Anyway whats your rota?" Rose asked.
"Ive been assigned as a Junior Lieutenant in Astrometric Observations! Monday to Thursday with Saturday and Sunday off." Jane read from her page. "Oh and I'm volunteering at the Linguistics Lab on Fridays."
"Of course you are." Rose rolled her eyes. "Congratulations though! At least we have the same days off. Anyway I'm going go get a snack in the canteen, care to join?"
"No thanks I'm good. I'm going to go check out our living quarters. I want to get get unpacked and settled in as quick as I can. Ill catch you later." Jane answered.
"Okay sure, see you later Lieutenant!" Rose chimed at her before taking off in the opposite direction.
...
The next day, after Jane had finished her introductory shift, she made her way to the Medical Bay to find Rose. She was deep in her own thoughts when she walked straight into someone who was passing her, almost knocking her self to the floor.
"God, I am so sorry! I was in a world of my own, I didn't see you- " Jane began to explain herself.
"No not to worry. It's not your fault your completely ignorant to your surroundings." The tall, dark haired man sneered before taking off without looking back.
Jane remained standing there in astonishment. What an asshole, she thought to her self.
Once Jane had found Rose, who had also just finishing her shift, they both made their way to the canteen to get dinner. Jane told Rose all about the guy she had accidentally banged into, and asked if she might have seen him during her shift.
"No he doesn't sound familiar. Mind you there are hundreds of people who come through the Med Bay everyday, for check ups and to drop off or pick up supplies. The guy probably just had a rough first day." Rose implied.
"Yeah or he's an arrogant prick." Jane responded.
"Or that!" Rose laughed. "So have you seen your brother yet?"
"No, and I don't expect to any time soon." Jane confessed. "He's the Captain of the ship, I can barely expect him to be sporting a family reunion, can I?"
"Guess your right." Rose agreed.
"Jane E. Kirk?" Jane turned to look at the person who had just spoke her name. A tall man with odd yet perfectly sculpted eyebrows and semi pointed ears stood in front of her. Jane recognised immediately recognised that the man was a Vulcan.
"Yes, thats me. Can I help you?"
"I am Executive First Commanding Officer Spock." He introduced himself. "I have been sent with a message. The Captain wishes to speak with you. If you would follow me please."
"Spoke too soon," Jane spoke to Rose, getting up out of her seat to follow the Commanding Officer. "Ill see you later."
