My life since I was young has been war. A fifteen year old boy should not have to live like this. Our war started at least a decade ago, not with a neighbouring country, no our war is with the leaders of the Alatairian throne world. It’s a concept everyone has thought about before the invasion but we were still unprepared, we lost a few hundred in the first week, but amazingly we managed to keep them relatively at bay for 10 years.
My name is Boba, and this morning I was conscripted into the army as well as my best friend, ben. On our way to the military base I took a look around the carrier, everyone was so young. We weren’t soldiers, most of us just learning to drive and here we are going to war with an army with vastly superior firepower.
In our orientation a man stood before us his face was cold and stern, no doubt shaped by years of war.
“Evening. I am general pre, and I’m your new den mother. Tomorrow we start basic training, you’ll have 4 weeks to become the best soldier you can be then we head to the frontline. Any questions?” No one spoke out of fear, as cold and stern as his face was his voice was even more so. “Good, get some sleep and get ready to start the fun.” I had the feeling his idea of fun wasn’t a game of basketball.
After the first day the basic flew, and next thing i know we’re on a plane heading into the mouth of hell “I am so excited about this,” said ben, only he would be excited at this moment, his father was killed by the Alatairian king so he saw this as a chance to redeem his family .“if I do this right, I could be a hero but if I do it wrong I’m compost.” His talk silenced the others, the fear in the room was palpable, and then Pre’s voice came booming out of nowhere.
“Boba, ben. Front and centre” we rushed over to him not wanting to keep him waiting. “You two were the best out of this troupe, so I’m giving you a new assignment. You won’t be going to the frontline with the others”
“Where would we be going?” I asked not fully sure if I wanted to know the answer.
Pre spoke with a calm quiet tone. “We are going inside the mother ship.” I noticed ben’s face light up with joy, while mine went white. But I agreed, like I had a choice.
We made our way toward the ship once we got inside and went our separate ways to carry out our separate orders, mine was to find the power source and shut it down. I searched but I couldn’t find any kind of power.
After searching through the ship for over an hour I found a doorway, it was the only one I’d seen the whole time I was in there. I gently opened it, cautious not to alert any guards that might be there. Then I saw her… the vixen, Sirena was her name she was the Alatairian princess, and she was beautiful. Even though she wasn’t human I was completely and utterly hypnotised by her. I was 3 seconds away from approaching her when I saw the guards; I drew my weapon as silently as I could so I didn’t warn them. But they must have heightened senses because they still found me. I tried to remember what pre told me, but before I could I felt cold and my vision went blurry, I glanced down and vaguely spotted an Alatairian blade sticking out from my chest. I fell to the floor in pain seeing only her, the last thing I ever saw was he. My princess, my world even though I never spoke to her she will always be mine.
