Rose's POV
~twelve days before~

I woke up with my phone next to my face. I might have fallen asleep while talking to Ethan. Thank god he didn't notice the room I was in since he probably knows this penthouse exists.

I wore a red halter top with black ripped jeans. I topped it all off with my torn old skool Vans. I straightened my hair and didn't apply makeup since I sucked at it.

I grabbed my keys, phone and wallet and shoved them in my pockets. I shuffled my feet to the door and locked it shut. I punched the button and waited for the elevator to arrive at my level.

On my way to the apartment lobby, the elevator stopped at numerous levels to pick people up. They were all heading to the same place I was heading to and that was the, lobby.

By the time we reached the ground floor, the elevator was packed like sardines in can; or packed like a bus during peak hours; or packed like a crowded street during the weekend; or packed like Sephora outlets during a huge sale.

Anyway, it was chaotic. Everyone was hurrying to get off the elevator that it was like a competition for the first person to get out. Everyone was pushing and nudging everyone else. I was squished to the very corner of the elevator which meant that I was the last to get off.

I called for a Uber to get me from the apartment. I asked the driver to send me to the nearest McDonalds from my location. As I expected, the driver did not speak a word to me for the whole ride.

It was very unsettling but I guess there was really nothing to talk about. Maybe, it was their culture to not speak with strangers or outsiders.

I thanked him after he pulled up to the McDonalds and I gave him his money. I alighted from the vehicle and stepped on the pavement before shutting the door.

As I was about to open the entrance door to the fast food restaurant, a girl bumped into me while she was riding her bike. She stopped and got off her bike to check up on me.

"Oh my god, I am so sorry. I meant to swerve to the right but I lost control of my bike," she apologised.

"No, no. It's okay." I accepted her apology while holding onto my sore shoulder.

"Are you okay? You don't look so great." she continued

"No, I'm fine." I reassured her eventhough I was clearly not fine.

She stucked out her hand and introduced herself, "Lia."

"Rose..." I shook her icy cold hand.

"W-wait. Like Rose Manchester. THE Rose Manchester?" she stuttered while her eyes wide open and her mouth agape.

"Y-yeah. How do you know me?" I questioned.

"I'm a fan of your work! You're, like, one of the most well-known assassins here. Almost everyone here worships you. Metaphorically. I-I mean like people like m-me. Like people who work for these kinda jobs..."

I chuckled and replied, "Haha! I get what you mean..."

"Well-"

"Would you be interested in working with me to get a quick job done?" I interrupted her.

"S-sure!" she agreed without knowing what she job herself into.

"On one condition." she continued.

"I'm listening..."

"Be my best friend." she smirked.

"Deal." I grinned.

I ordered an egg and sausage McMuffin with a side of hashbrowns and a black coffee as the drink. Lia, on the other hand, ordered some hotcakes and an iced tea because she was feelin' it.
