Chapter 2 - So Close
ALLYSON'S POV
I have never liked waiting. Those goons have better give me a good reason for being behind schedule. Not that I expected them to be on time, no one can ever come an inch close to my standards.
Well, someone has.
I stop by at a small bookstore, casually looking around. No one pays me any attention. If only they realize who I am and what I'm capable of... I smile to myself at the thought.
I was about to go sit and relax at the reader's lounge when I felt my phone buzzing in my pocket. This better be important. They know I'm on a mission, how dare they disturb me when I'm busy? Fools, they never learn. Maybe it's time for a little lesson to remind them...
A, we got his location. Currently following him. CODE RED. McCann's close by. He'll see everything. We have to make our move, NOW. Before anything gets... ugly. PREVENTION IS necessary. We can't risk any mishaps. You know how he gets. He's not called itchy-fingers for nothing. Then all's lost. Come here quickly. I'll send you the coordinates
-C
Great, another failure. Must I do everything myself? My client will have to wait. There are much more significant things at hand. It's asinine to trust those fools with such a job.
Better to get going then.

AUSTIN'S POV
Inch by inch, I'm moving closer to the noise. I immediately hide behind the dumpster. My heart's beating so fast, I'm afraid that the man will hear it. Nevertheless, he shows no sign of knowing I am here. Carefully, I peek.
What I saw made my heart stop.
The man has blood all over his body. I gasp when I see a mangled body. By the looks of it, the body belongs to a girl. Wait no, it BELONGED to a girl. She had cuts everywhere, and the man is butchering her. By the looks of all the blood, this is a recent kill. Maybe she was alive seconds before I came closer. That's disturbing.
I stand back and exhale. I didn't even realize I was holding my breath. I can feel my sweat slither down my face and back as I come to an understanding.
I had better get the fuck out of here.
I inch back slowly and quietly, praying to God that my footsteps stay quiet as a mouse. The police need to know about this, but I'm afraid I lack information. I have no idea what the man's face look like and I don't know the girl. On the other hand, not informing them would be against my principles. I could call 911, but will they arrive on time? I guess it's my best shot. Better that than doing nothing.
As I was about to dial 911, I heard a crunch-like noise. I immediately turn my head to see what had caused it. There was nothing. Was it just my imagination?
Clearly, this is not the ideal place to call 911. I had better get my ass out of this place and then call.
When I was far enough, I run like hell. I didn't even care where I was going. All that mattered was putting a great amount of distance between that murderer and me.
Little did I know that a girl was in close pursuit.
The following day I felt dizzy as hell. It's as if a thousand hammers were pounding my head simultaneously. My hand instinctively searched for my phone. 1:45PM. It's the afternoon already?
Looking around, I soon realize that I am in my bedroom. How did I get here?
I lie back down, rubbing the temples of my head. There was a knock on the door.
"Austin? You awake?" a familiar voice said. "I brought you some pizza."
My mom enters the room with a box of pizza. I was just staring at her. There were a million questions running through my head, I couldn't decide which to ask first. She seems to realize what I was thinking because she smiled at me and said, "You passed out honey," What? "The police brought you here last night. Some passerby saw you," She shrugged as if this was no big deal. Clearly, it wasn't.
"I don't remember passing out," I said, mostly to myself. I racked my brain trying to recall the memories of last night. In fact, I don't remember anything at all. What happened?
"Just don't... think about it. You need rest," Mom said while kissing my forehead. "Anyway, I have to get some groceries, okay?"
"Okay."
Allyson's POV
"How careless can you be?!" I screamed, slapping the poor blond-haired worthless imbecile. She tumbled to the ground due to impact. I kicked her. "MCCANN WAS SPOTTED!"
"He didn't see-" She began, but I cut her.
"SHUT IT!"
"Allyson, stop it," a male voice said, grabbing my arm.
"DON'T YOU SEE?! THIS COULD HAVE RUINED EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING!"
I was beyond mad. I was furious. Everything must go smoothly. If he is what I think he is, a slight error will blow our cover. Not that it really matters though. I'd still get him one way or another. Nevertheless, deception is everything.
"Now, don't be too harsh on Chachi," Jason said. He helped Chachi get back up on her feet. He looked me in the eye and said, "You know we need her."
I sigh, knowing he was right. There was silence.
Looking around, Jason breaks the silence. "At least you got there on time."
I squint at him. "Don't you start. It's YOUR fault for being so unprofessional. I mean, an alleyway? What, do you want to dance around on stage telling everyone you're a killer?" Jason didn't answer. I smile in triumph. "And you call yourself a master killer. You disgust me. You better be thankful I'm not letting you... off," he gulped knowing what I mean by that.
The two stare at the floor. "If I hadn't come and shot him that dart that caused him to momentarily forget what he just saw, you two would be dead by now," I let the sentence sink in to their little minds.
"I'm sorry," Chachi spoke.
I waved her off. "Leave, both of you."
The two scurry out of my office. Oh, how I love seeing the fear in their eyes.
This is taking too long. I need him now. What was I thinking depending on those fools? It's time to take matters into my own hands.
I'm coming for you, Austin Carter Mahone.
