Ch 2

I let my hand fall from the window as I watched District 10, my home, fade into the distance. "Hey, it's gonna be alright." I hear a voice behind me say. I turn around. Ben looks at me with a mixture of sadness and... something else on his face that could only be described as... excitement. "C'mon," he says, "you get to see the Capitol and meet people from other districts and eat all of their nice food." I shake my head. "But I'd rather be home Ben! I miss my sister, I miss my dog, I miss my horse." He looks at me sadly, "I know Endy, I know." he opens his arms and without hesitation I walk into them. He hugs me tightly. "You're going home." I shake my head. "But you're here too." He tightens him arms, "No. You are going home." We hear a click and a door on the far side of the car slides open. We step apart as the Capitol lady walks in. "All right now," she said in her high pitched voice that seemed to cut off on the ends. "I'm Tanya. I'll be your escort for the time that you're with us." Ben and I glanced at each other and tried not to laugh. She looked so ridiculous in her ankle length, skin-tight, bright pink dress, and 7 inch high heels, it was a wonder she could even walk at all. "Now, you two better wash up before dinner," she said and wrinkled her nose, "you both smell like animals. An avox will show you to your rooms." With that she clapped her hands twice and a pretty, brown haired girl, wearing a blue dress, walked towards them. She gestured for us to follow her. We walked down a hallway as passed into another car. She looked at me and pointed to a room at the end of the corridor. And then nodded at another one for Ben. We said our thanks and went into our rooms to get ready. I pulled off my blue plaid shirt which had been passed down from my sister. Then I slipped off my boots. They were the only piece of clothing that had ever been my own. Out of habit I slip them under the bed that was covered by a horrible purple spread, but at least it was soft. I go into the bath room and step in the shower. There were so many buttons and I pushed random ones so I ended up shivering under freezing cold jets of water and covered with blue foam that took me forever to scrub off. After I step out I wrap myself in a thick soft towel and look in the closet to see what there is to wear. "Dresses," I thought to myself, disgusted. I hate dresses. I own exactly one, and I only wear that for church. I walked over to the dresser and looked in. More dresses. I sigh. I walked back to the closet and pick the dullest most plain one I can fine. In this case it's a dark green, knee length dress with a black belt. I slip it on and, while the rest of my old clothes have disappeared, I'm glad to see that my boots are where I left them under the bed. I pull them on with a clean pair of socks that I find in the top drawer. I brush through my hair and go out.
