Courtney rented a car and drove us over to our grandparents house.
"Oh my goodness, you're both pregnant, I didn't know that!" Grandma exclaimed.
"Yeah, I'm due on May 11, and she's due on September 3." I said.
"Wow, what are you having?" She asked, pouring us tea.
"I'm having a girl, she's having a boy." I said.
"Where are the fathers?" Grandma asked.
"They're in a band together, they're on tour right now." I said.
"Oh, are they good boys?" She asked.
"The best Grandma. They take good care of us." Courtney said.
"Last I heard from you, Elise was in the hospital recovering from being beaten senseless and addicted to drugs." Grandma said.
"That's in the past grandma. I'm happy and safe now." I said.
"She's getting married." Courtney said.
"We're getting married." I corrected her.
"You are?" She asked.
We nodded, "I'm getting married in late May, and she's getting married in September." I said.
"Wow, so much to take in at once." Grandma said.
"You're telling us." Courtney said.
"So are you girls hungry?" She asked.
"I could definitely eat." I said.
"So tell me, what brings my two California girls all the way back to old Texas?" Grandma asked.
"I came back to say my last goodbyes to Liv. I was mad at Courtney when she died, so I didn't even know until last night." I said.
"Oh, that's unfortunate. I hate to say it, but Liv got herself into a bad situation, and it cost her life. I'm just glad you two are smarter than that." She said.
"I've been there too Grandma. I was just lucky enough to make it out alive." I said.
"God blessed you with a second chance, because he put you on this earth to accomplish good things, and you weren't leaving until you'd done everything you wanted, and needed to do." She said smiling.
"Unfortunately, Mike wasn't so lucky." I said sadly.
"Who's Mike?" Grandma asked.
"He was the guy that I left Texas for. The one who got me hooked on drugs and almost killed me. We both made a full recovery from our addiction, but unfortunately, he relapsed and ended up killing himself." I said.
"I'm sure that aside from his drug use, Mike was a good man." Grandma said.
"He was the best." I said, sniffling.
I felt the warm tears on my cheeks, and I wiped them away.
"He meant the world to all of his family and friends. It was really hard when he died." I said.
"There, there dear. He's not hurting himself anymore." She said.
"Vic still has a pretty hard time dealing with it. He didn't really want to go on with the band without Mike. But he's trying." I said.
"I'm going to have to meet this 'Vic' character." Grandma said.
"You will. We're getting married, and I really want you to be there. Since my parents can't be." I said.
"I'll be at both your weddings, because I want to meet this 'Jaime' character too." She said.
"That's where we might have problems." I teased.
