Some people hate the mornings, personally I think its the best part of the day. Everything is so calm and quiet. Its like the entire world's waking up. I think Hyrule is most beautiful during the morning time. There's something refreshing about the this wonderful kingdom on the start of a new day. I'm a knight in training and my job is to preserve and protect Hyrule. I've also made it a personal goal to protect princess Sierra. Its mornings like this where I get to lay on the grass watching the sun rise with her, that make me a morning person.
"So you're just going to lay there and pretend I'm not dying?" Sierra finally said.
"Stop, you know I hate it when you talk like that. And you're not dying". I responded.
"...I might as well be"
I wish I could say that she was being overdramatic. I wish I could tell her that she'll be alright, but we both know the result of her family curse.
"Look I promise I'll do everything I can to-"
"I already know" She cut me off. "I already know that the Hendrickson curse has gone public. People want answers don't they?"
"We don't know how public it is yet. There has to be a way to squash it before it spreads"
Sierra sat up, hugging her legs. "You know, I always cried whenever someone in my family turned 29. Every year, all the time. It wasn't until two years ago when Uncle Fred was assassinated --I was the first to see his dead body" Her voice cracked. "It was then that I realized the severity of the curse. It was also the day I didn't cry and would never cry again".
I had nothing to say to that. What could I possibly say that'd make a difference to her. Sierra and her whole family suffer from the royal Hendrickson curse. Years ago before humans found this land. It was a kingdom called Tagoth ruled by Gannon. It was a sick civilization, so Sierra's ancestor gathered a strong group of warrior magicians to conquer it. Eventually they chased every non human away. Gannon was furious, he used the last of his magic to curse the entire bloodline. No one is allowed to live past 30. Its said that the only way to rid the curse is to kill Gannon.
I watched Sierra as she struggled to hold back her tears. Suddenly, her mood shifted as she notice something rustling in a nearby bush. She was more serious and agitated.
"You can come out now" She said as she stood. "He's all yours" She immediately entered the castle.
"S-sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt anything" My assistant, Lynne came out from the bushes.
"Whoa, what were you doing in the bush?" I watched her with curiosity.
"Y-you know, just uhm bushing around...Actually! We need to talk. Its about the kingdom".
