"I can't take this anymore." I cried as I huddled over the toilet. My stomach has been doing back flips all week and my throat is sore from the consistent vomit. "Babe, I made you some tea, and there's crackers on the nightstand. Feel better, I have to run out and handle some business," Corey said as he gave me a kiss goodbye. When he walked out the door, I began to think about the baby. Well, I think I'm pregnant, but Corey doesn't want me to take a test. He says he wants to follow his family traditions and just wait it out. I didn't question it. I'm just grateful to be carrying his child.
A loud noise took me out of my daydream. BANG! I hear my front door bust open. "Corey?" I yell out. I received no response. I quickly hop out of bed and lock my room door. I then unlock the safe to grab Corey's gun. I'm ready to shoot first and ask questions later. I don't know who the fuck it was but whoever it is, is going to wish they didn't. The footsteps got louder and then paused. I cover my mouth to remain quiet. I hear my door knob turning. After the intruder realized the door was locked, he then kicked it in. I panicked. I get up from behind the bed and pulled the trigger with my eyes closed. I opened my eyes when I realized I didn't hear a shot just clicking. CLICK! I then looked at my gun to see if my eyes were playing tricks on me. The gun wasn't loaded.
"Get the fuck on the ground bitch!" The man yelled with a black hoodie and black bandana over his mouth. "Who the fuck are you? You better leave before my man come back. He will fucking kill you!" I scream as the man came towards me. All I remember was the gun in my face then everything went black.
"Can you hear me, Rubi? If you can hear me, I need you to wake up." I hear someone say as I open my eyes. I see a doctor and a lady who appeared to be a Social Worker standing over my bed. My mouth was extremely dry, as if I spent days in a desert. "Can I get a cup of water please," was the only thing that came out of my mouth. I then felt a severe pain in my stomach. I was all bandaged up. "It's just a bullet graze. You will be okay mam'," the doctor said. "Did they catch who did this?" I asked. I sat in the bed trying to collect my thoughts. The sounds of sniffling caused me to turn me head. Corey was in the corner sitting in the chair with his hands covering his face. "Corey! What happened? What's wrong?" I began to yell. I attempt to get up from the hospital bed, but the pain is too heavy. "My baby! Did I have my baby? Where is my baby?" I screamed out of confusion and fear. "Ma'am, I need you to relax." The doctor said with a stern but concerned look on his face. "Nothing is making sense right now. Someone tell me what is going on!" I cried out while shaking my head. "Would you like to have a moment with your wife?" The doctor asked Corey. "Y-Yes doctor, Thank you." Corey stuttered. Now, Corey only stutters when he is nervous which made me afraid. When the staff left the room, Corey's whole aura changed. His frown turned into a blank stare.
"Why the fuck you have to act so tuff all the time? And who told you to go in my shit?" He asked aggressively. He was more upset with me then the fact I almost got killed. "What? What are you talking about? Someone broke in!" I'm in disbelief. "Did I lose the baby?" I ask. He looked down to the floor and mumbled "They said you not pregnant," he finally answered. I felt my soul leave my body. ''Huh? What are you talking about. I've been throwing up like crazy! How is this possible? " I then felt defeated. Corey and I have been trying for a baby since the day we confirmed our love. "Let's take a test Corey! Please, they don't know what they're talking about!" I tried to convince him. "Corey, please?" I begged as tears fell down my face. "I'm sorry," Corey said looking to the floor as he handed me a piece of paper. He then stormed out of the room. "Corey! Where are you going!" I screamed hoping that he would stop but he didn't. Corey kept walking and never looked back.
The medical staff entered the room. The doctor had a folder in his hand. "Hello, Ms. Jackson, we do offer support resources for your diagnosis. I'm sorry again," he stated as if I knew what the fuck he was talking about. "Diagnosis? What are you talking about! I was pregnant, where is my baby," I screamed. I felt like a fucking lunatic. "Your husband didn't speak with you?" The doctor asked. "You're my doctor! your supposed to speak with me!" I was in disbelief. He then cleared his throat and then handed me the folder. "I'll give you a moment." He then walked out of the room. I opened the folder, and it appeared to be lab results. My tears dripped on the paper. What the fuck? is what I'm thinking to myself as I read my results. HIV Positive. I feel like I am trapped in a nightmare. This has to be a dream. I then remembered the note Corey gave me. I finally opened it up, and it read "I'm sorry you had to find out this way. I'm a monster."
