This story was, once again, brought on by boredom and weird daydreams. That, and slight writers block for my other stories. Okay, MAJOR writers block. But this one will be shorter (hopefully) and won't take long to write. Hope you enjoy!!
Disclaimer: I DO NOT own Vampire Knight, or any of its characters. They belong to Matsuri Hino.

Kuran Kaname, the last surviving progenitor of the vampire race, stood in front of a furnace. The furnace. The one that gave the Hunters the weapons necessary to fight vampires. The one that, after thousands of years, had finally gone cold. Perhaps her spirit had finally found peace. Kaname sincerely hoped so. She who had given him a name when he could not remember his own. She who had given him a home after he was thrown out of his own. The progenitor of the Hunters, who had fought so long, who deserved peace. She had earned it.
Kaname smiled sadly. Yuki will be very angry with him. Kiryu-kun too, although for different reasons. Kaname knew that Kiryu would take care of Yuki. Make sure that she took care of herself, and not let grief and bitterness consume her.
He closed his eyes, picturing Juri and Haruka's faces. Then the headmaster's. Then Aido's, and Takuma's, and Kain's, and everyone in the Night Class. Surprisingly, he also thought of Rido, and Shizuka, and all the other lives he had ruined, killed, or had a hand in killing. Lastly, he thought of Yuki. Of the smile that could light up the world, the one he hadn't seen in so long now, and never would again.
Kaname took a breath, about to reach into his chest and-
"Son of Kuran," a soft voice said.
Kaname spun around to see Shouto Isaya standing right behind him. Isaya smiled slightly.
"My apologies. I did not mean to startle you. But I have a request," Isaya's smooth voice said. Kaname raised one eyebrow slightly. A request? Now, of all times? But the Pureblood had been a close friend to his adopted parents. He could listen to his request.
"Of course. What is it?"
Isaya studied him for a moment, before saying, "You still have much to live for, son of Kuran. The female descendant of your blood, your friends who are risking their lives for this school once again. I have nothing to live for. My wife and child long ago turned to dust, my heart with them. I am merely a living ghost, one who has coveted peace for so long, but never able to reach it. But now, I might have finally found it." Isaya took a step closer, his grey eyes more clear and determined than Kaname had ever seen. "Let me take your place. Let me become the new Origin Metal. You live on, and continue your parents dream of coexistence. Please."
Kaname looked at the man in front of him. Really looked at him. Isaya's shoulders were squared, his chin high, and his eyes full of steel.
And Kaname had his answer.

Yuki sliced another vampire in half, before looking around wildly. Everywhere she looked, there was blood, dust, and bodies everywhere. Even on her.
The battle was at its climax, battle cries and the screams of the dying filling the air. Hunters versus vampires, vampires against other vampires. The opposing army was relentless and brutal in its attack. Yuki ran to the gates, hacking and slicing away with Artemis.
While Artemis hadn't shown any sort of cracks or breaks since the Origin Metal- that woman-had cooled and shattered, something about Artemis seemed...unstable. Fragile.
