Prison.
Ever been there? Have a family member in there? Trust me I know how it is.
It's hard in prison but when you do the crime you have to do time. My friends would always ask me,
"Why did you wanna become a prison guard? Are you crazy?"
I would always shrug, they'll never know the real reason. When I was 8 my dad got killed in prison by a gang. He didn't even do anything to harm them, I guess they just "felt like it."
Being a prison guard I want to protect the prisoners and make sure the right people are put in jail.
It's hard to be a female prison guard. Everybody thinks you're weak and that you won't do anything. Everyone in prison thinks they're hard until they get tased of course. Trust me, that shit hurts.
Do you know what's even worse about me being a female guard? The chief called me in his office one day and told me the worst thing possible.
"Jones I'm giving you a promotion." He looked up from his computer.
I gasped, "Thank you, sir!" He put his hand in front of my face and quietly told me to sit down.
"Is there a problem?" I asked confused.
He sighed rubbing his temples, "Jones, what I mean by promotion is I'm switching you to the male ward."
What?!
"Sir! Why me?" I shouted.
He sighed aware of my frustration, "Jones we lost a guard in the male ward and no one will fill his spot. You're a very stern officer. I know you can put men in their place if they try."
I crossed my legs, leaning in, "Sir what about rapists?"
Chief just chuckled, "Jones you do remember your fiancé is a guard in there?"
Oh right, I forgot to mention. My fiancé is Adam Reyes. I met him in guard training he was already a guard and I was struggling with training. He made it so much easier and I don't know, I guess you could say we fell in love.
"I will take the job, sir." I stood up and shook his hand.
He smiled widely, "Thank you, Jones! If you at any time feel uncomfortable, I will permit you to leave. You'll start tomorrow."
I walked out of his office with my shoulders slumped.
