I sat down in front of the microphone on a beautiful, gold crusted chair with a soft cushion as it's seating. As i sat down i looked up at the three eager faces of the judges, smiling towards me ready to begin.
"Well then, Hello dear it says here your name is Rebeca, It's very nice to meet you Rebeca. You have already been introduced to us. Now i will run down the system basically of how this interview will take place, so take a breathe and calm down. We want you to tell us the answer to 3 simple questions, based on the answers, we will give a mark out of 10. Now out of the girls that have come here who ever gets the highest score will be the winner of this competition. So are you ready for the three questions?"
I take in his words, and give a gentle nod. "Yes, Sir."
"Oh honey, please don't be that formal call me Dave." with that he gave me a wink, and then Cassandra spoke, "Tell us about your self and your hobbies, Tell us sweetie why is it that you want a makeover? and lastly, What do you want to achieve out of getting this makeover? You have 5 minutes to think and then start."
I look at all three of them and then look down, closing my eyes and knowing the answer to each one of the questions then i think clearly about the last question and smile. I tilt my head up and take a deep breath.
"My name is Rebeca Blake, my hobbies have always remained the same, i volunteer at the charity shop down the road from my house, then sometimes at the animal shelter, i hang out with my best friend Sean heaps as well, (a smile ventures up on my face), my family is not the richest you see so i could never afford grand parties or the latest clothes, this meaning i never made many friends. Half of them would turn their noses on me and mock me. I want to get this makeover because i want to look in the mirror everyday, and smile i don't want to frown at myself or cry, i want to be confident, i want to be able to stride to places and get noticed. I know i sound like beauty is the only major thing that counts but i don't, i never used to, i always thought knowledge is the best resource to get somewhere in life to be noticed. But now i do believe that by looking good, by having a perfect you can socialise more, have a place in this big world. i want that so bad. I have never been selfish in life, but i really want no wait i really need this for me.
I want to achieve a rule, a rule in my school that you don't have to be pretty and mean there are people who are beautiful and nice like Cassandra and Miranda."
"That is very sweet of you Rebeca, we will now discuss and record the marks. Thank you for enlisting, also if you do get selected as the winner we do NOT want anyone to know apart from your parents..." "What about my best friend, Sean? " " No not even him."
As i head out to the exit door, i look down and turn around towards the judges, "When i came here, i really wanted to be the winner, but now that i see all these other girls with the same dream, i don't care. I just want one of us to get our dream full filled. Thank you for doing that." With that all three of them give me a smile and i head out.
A week later.
It's 23rd or October, which means my dad will be back. I shriek like a little school girl with excitement, my dad's part of the army, which means i hardly ever get to see him but knowing of the good cause he is putting himself through, i can't help but be proud.
I look outside my bedroom door and i see my dad walking towards the front door, i quickly run down and into my dad's arms. "Hold on there solider, your daddy ain't the young solider he used to be, how's my pumpkin?" i give him my widest smile and say, "I missed you daddy." "Aww so did i honey, but what i can say, a man's got do what a man's gotta do."
The phone rings, i give my dad a quick peck on the cheek and walk towards the phone. "Hey there, Miss i have forgotten my best friend.." I laugh and like that me and Sean spend 2 hours talking on the phone.
