I continue to sprint down the long corridors. If I can just reach the end of the hallways I will be free. I'll be safe.
I turn the corner to see a set of double doors at the end of the hall. I begin to sprint faster. Twenty paces away. Ten. Five. My hand reaches out to the doors. I push them open. Sweet air runs down my throat. The sun shines down on me.
I've escaped.
After taking a moment to catch my breath I hear footsteps drawing closer. Again, I begin to sprint. My best bet is the woods. I run until I am entangled with tree branches and leaves.
Feet continue to thunder behind me. Voices calling for me. I don't dare look back. The sun starts to go down, and after a while I don't hear footsteps any more. I look up at all the trees to find one about ten feet away from me that is thick with leaves. I begin to climb, only stopping when the leaves are so thick that I cannot see the ground. Taking deep breathes I lean back against the tree and shut my eyes. I try to block out the images that rush through my brain. Then I hear something.
More footsteps. They are pounding towards me. Suddenly he begins to shout my name, and soon he is right underneath me. I'm careful not to make any noises. I cannot make any noises. Because if I do he will find me.
And he will kill me.
