*10 years prior ( basically when they were 8) *
Ding Ding
You can hear the loud chime of the bell from the front door, ringing through the small flower shop. I turned around and I saw a small boy, black hair with big brown eyes. He seemed to be the same age as me, 8. I went around the counter to meet the young boy, we both glanced at eachother. I looked into his dark, hazel eyes while he glanced back into my piercing jade eyes. "Heya!" The boy grinned from ear to ear. " My name is Blake Richardson." I smiled back at him. " What are you looking for today?" I asked Blake. " Can I ask you a question?" He inquired, tilting his head, his messy locks falling over his face. Exposing a small bruise covered by a patch on his cheek. " Sure, what is it?"
" What flower shows someone love?" He asked. Confused, I look at him and then reply. " Well basically most red flowers mean love, but the most popular ones are roses. Who's it for?" I knew perfectly well that mother told me not to ask this question to customers but I really wanted to know, besides. We're both eight, its fine. " It's for this pretty girl I recently met. You might know her." He gave out a small chuckle. He put his hand down the front pocket of his romper and took out $15 and handed it to me. " I'll take a single red rose, keep the change. " He smiled at me, sliding the $15 down into my hand.
"O-okay." I turned around, placed the $15 into the cash register and went to the back room. I turned the lights on and grabbed a single rose. Returning back to the boy, he was gone. All was left of him was just a small piece of paper left on the counter. On the paper it said. " The rose is to you, I want you to keep it. I just thought you were the prettiest girl I've ever seen <3 -Blake Richardson" I clutched the note close to my chest and looked at the flower.
*Present Day*
"Lucy? Sweetie?" My mother shouted from the main room of the sunlit flowershop. " Yes, Mom?" I inquired. " Can you get me a bouquet of pink Carnations?" She answered. " Sure, one second." I scavenged through the back room where the flowers grew, I walked up to the counters near the sink where there was some pre-made bouquets of flowers. I reached out for the bouquet of clawed and serrated pink flowers called Carnations and carried the huge bouquet of about 40 different shades pinks and fuschias to the main room and handed them to my mother.
" Here you go, should I lock up in the back?" I asked, its about time to close the store for the day. On Thursdays we close the shop early. " No, it's fine. In fact this young man here is willing to help us out with this flower shop. Hes a regular customer." She smiled, looking at me and then motioning me to greet the young man.
" Uh, hi. I'm Lucy Underwood." I nodded. " Nice to meet you Lucy, I'm Blake." He smiled, he pushed his black locks out of his face and looked at my mother. " So, see you tomorrow Mrs. Underwood?" He asked. " Yep, I'll see you tomorrow. Here are your Carnations and please tell your mother to feel better soon. " She smiled sympathetically and placed her hand on his shoulder to reassure him.
" Will do, goodbye Ladies!" He smiled, thanked me and my mom and went out of the flower shop. 'Blake.. It can't be. Its just a coincidence.' My mother turned to face me and laughed. " He is a cutie isn't he?" I huffed and I shook my head. " Mom, no. Stop" I laughed. "What? Besides, the School Dance is almost here and you still don't have a date." She placed her hand on her hip. A smug expression was plastered onto her face. " It's fine, I can go with the girls. I'll be fine. " I paused before continuing. " So you're closing up today?" I asked, grabbing my coat and my phone. " Yeah, I'll close up and you go get yourself some coffee. " She said, sliding a $10 bill to me. "Alright, thank you." I hugged her and walked out of the flower shop.
