Bethrothed- Engaged to be married.
You heard that right. I'm engaged.
I'm bethrothed to the Monkey King himself, believe it or not. I've met him once, but that was years ago. I'm suppose to meet him again when he returns from his journey to the West, but... What if I'm not what he expects me to be?
"You're not worthy."
"You're not good enough for him."
"He deserves someone better than you."
"Why would he like someone like you?"
I try to ignore what those other princesses say, but what if they're right?
"Courtney?" A voice says, breaking me from my trance. I look to see that it's my little sister figure Haley (my friend _haley_malfoy_ 😊). She's been like a little sister to me for a while, so it makes sense she may be worried about me, like I sometimes get worried about her.
"Yes, Haley?" I ask, trying to hide the fact I'm scared of what Sun Wukong, The Monkey King, Great Sage Equal to Heaven, would think of me.
"I think I saw Sun Wukong in the throne room talking to your parents. Wanna check it out?" She responded.
"Really? O-okay, yeah, let's take a look." I said, rather nervous.
We walked over to one of the doors that lead to the throne room (I'm not 100% sure how throne rooms work/worked, so bare with me 😅) And tried to listen in. We eventually just peeked in, opening the door slightly to see inside and sure enough, there he was, talking to my parents, the King and Queen.
"Its a pleasure to see you two again, Your Majesties. I do apologize for not wearing more proper attire. You see, I've just returned from my journey to the West with my master and brothers." Sun Wukong told them, sounding more polite than what most would think.
Haley and I knew if we stayed there that long, we might get caught, so while Wukong was still talking to my parents, we quietly closed the door and went somewhere private to talk.
Haley noticed my face was slightly red and chuckled.
"What?" I asked. "Nothing." She responded, a sly smirk across her face.
