Chapter 7 -  Pretty Eventful!

Monday.

The most dreaded day of the week, not because it kick-starts school after the weekend, but because the whole school knows about my 'date'.

I reached school half an hour before the first period to avoid crowded hallways and attention.

I entered the school through the huge doors leading into the hallway, I walked with my head hanging low and my arms wrapped around my body to keep warm.

The temperatures have fallen considerably over the weekend. I clutched onto my jacket, pulling it closer and walked to my first class. Career counselling.

It wasn't something I needed to worry about, just a simple lecture, I'm probably going to sleep through the entire class.

Mrs. Gill, my teacher will be very disappointed in me if I miss this class because a) I'm a prefect b) Because I belong to the Cultural department and not her counseling department. She finds immense pleasure in finding faults in me. So I have to attend this class.

Unwillingly, I stepped into the vacant class and found myself a seat in the back. I flopped down into my seat and plugged into my iPod to hear something soothing to calm my nerves. I clicked onto "The Night Of Rain" and put my head down on the desk. The song started, it's a beautiful blend of piano and the music of rain drops.

I've always loved the rain and the emotions it brought with it, it gives me a sense of solace, its like the whole world enters into a phase of rejuvenation and restoration. When the rain stops, it feels like everything is clear, everything is afresh.

And sometimes the rain also causes me to become a full-fledged poet. Ideas come darting into my mind at the mere mention of it, its essence, its purpose and the smell of soil after it rains!

I was snapped out of my thoughts when somebody flung open the door and rushed in. I unplugged my iPod and stuffed it into my clutch when that somebody come into view. It was Rida from my Biology class, she was tall and skinny with silky long hair and striking features.

She was a good friend of mine, I wanted to go and talk to her, but then I noticed other students coming in and grabbing their respective seats. I dropped the idea and sank further into my seat; slowly the students filed in and the classroom was filled with their chitter-chatter and laughters.

Mrs. Gill walked in with books and some papers in her hand and closed the door behind her. The noises in the class were hushed down to whispers from some over enthusiastic kids who just couldn't keep their mouths shut.

I opened my book and pulled out a pen; looking at the vacant seat beside me, I muttered a 'Thank God' under my breath. I put my one hand over the other before resting my chin on it. Mrs. Gill started explaining something about 'The psychology of teenagers today' but I couldn't concentrate and soon I zoned out.

A few minutes might have passed, I didn't really feel like turning around to take a look at the clock hanging on the wall behind me. I sighed deeply and decided to take a nap, I wouldn't get in trouble because I was sitting in the furthest corner of the class with a row of 8 students in front of me and once Mrs. Gill is seated and has begun the lecture she will only get up at the end of class.

So I decided it's a good idea; I turned my head to the side in order to be in a more comfortable position and closed my eyes. I was probably 10-15 minutes into semi-sleep when a knock on the door disturbed me. I half opened my eyes and groaned internally, I decided against getting up and turned my head to the other side.
