chapter 7

After breakfast Ali & Ivan drove to the hospital. The day was long & drawn out. Just sitting around waiting. The nurse had informed them that morning that Chip was stable. They were still keeping him sedated because every time he started coming around he would pull at the IV's.  Their visiting time was limited & all they could do was sit & wait. The guys that hung out at the feed & seed had come by earlier & told Ali how sorry they were that Chip had been hurt. They told her that if they needed help out at the ranch to let them know. 

     Late that evening the nurse came & told them they could visit with Chip & he was now awake. Heading down the long corridor they followed the nurse into the room. "Bout time, Where the hell y'all been?"  Roared Chip.  "We've been here all day & calm your butt down before they sedate you again!" Ali scolded.  "What the hell happened to me anyway?" He asked.  "The last thing I remember is going into the paddock to fix the gate. I be damned if I don't have one hum-dinger of a gal dang headache!"  "NURSE!!!!!!!!" Chip bellowed. The nurse quickly appeared & Chip  demanded something for pain. "All you had to do was ask" The nurse replied. "you didn't have to bellow at me like I was a lost steer or something!" she quipped. Chip looked taken aback as she quickly disappeared & then reappeared with his pain meds. "I'm hungry too," he  told her grouchily. "I'll call the kitchen & see if they can russle you up some grub, In the mean time calm your cute ass down or I'll see to it you're sedated for a week cowboy! Ali couldn't contain her giggle at the look on Chip's face as relief washed over her that he was going to be okay. Ivan Felt the same relief. He didn't even realized he was holding Ali's hand until a grinning Chip said "What the hell man? I'm out one night & you're shagging my baby sister?!?!" Ali would have let go of Ivan's hand but Ivan's grip remained firm.   Chip noticed the uncomfortable worried look on Ivan's face & continued, "Relax you two I couldn't be happier!" Ivan relaxed & Ali was startled. she NEVER thought Chip would approve of them together! "For your information partner,  We are two adults & what goes on or doesn't go on is none of your bees wax! But I'm glad you aren't angry." Ivan replied causing Ali to blush even more.  Chip said "No need to be  embarrassed Ali, I think it's high time you two hooked up, I can't think of any one more suitable for my baby sis than my best friend, & the only man she's been in love with since like forever!"  He continued, just to see Ali squirm, "And by the way sis, What was that the other day about some cow polk at the feed & seed asking for a ride on the tractor?, seems to me you gave him a more personal ride!"  "CHIP!!!" Ali exclaimed, blushing from the line of her hair to the tips of her toes.  Ivan loved the fact that she was squirming too, & joined in the fun. "Seems to me someones got some explaining to do Bonnie!"  Ali had finally had enough of their teasing. "Okay you two! Fun's over! Chip if you don't stop I'm gonna tell that nurse that thinks your ass is cute that you're misbehaving! & You," she scowled at Ivan, " If you don't behave I won't give you any for a week!"  "Aliiii,,, Ivan whined, you really know how to hurt a man!" he feigned  a heart broken look while trying to hide a smirk. 

Just then the nurse returned with a tray of food, which Chip dug into while Ali explained about the horse attacking him. "Damn!" Chip said, "I knew I should have sent his ass to the glue factory, He's probably high tailed it to Arizona by now!"  Ali looked uncomfortable & started " Well,,, the thing is,,, umm,, well you see I um....."  Ivan interrupted, "Oh, no need to worry about that I'd say he isn't going anywhere any more, Ali Shot him yesterday!"  "WHAT!???!!" Chip  yelped.   Ivan explained, "She was very upset thinking the horse had probably killed you & he probably would have succeeded  if I hadn't lassoed the hellion & tied him to the post."   "Well I'm okay now, I just want to blow this Popsicle stand & get home!"  "OH NO you don't cowboy," The nurse interrupted, " you've had a hard lick to the head & just had two major surgeries! You aren't going anywhere UNLESS you want to deal with me!"  Chip looked like a kid with his hand caught in the cookie jar. "Yes Mam!" he replied, Shocking the crap out of both Ali & Ivan as they looked at each other puzzled that he submitted so quickly.
