I awoke groggily, sitting up slowly. I was in my house, right...? Why....? Why was there cat piss on the rug...? Well... I ought to clean that...

"Hey, Allison." Carter yawned, trudging down the stairs about ten minutes later.

"Morning." Discarding the cleaning mess, I turned to the woman. "Mind making breakfast? I'm going to go find the kitten."

Carter nodded and started to get out ingredients for pancakes. I found the tabby soon after, cowering under the couch. "Come on out..." I murmured softly, pulling it out by the scruff. The kitten wailed in protest. "How do you sex a four month kitten?"

"Hell if I know." Carter replied, cracking eggs into a pastel blue bowl.

I groaned, holding the kitten up to the light. "Why do cats have so much fur?!"

Carter shrugged and turned to the fridge... most likely to pillage it for ingredients.

"I guess I'll go take it to Hill real quick," I muttered. John Hill was the town veterinarian. He owned a small clinic on Lincoln Street. "I'll be back in... whenever you're done." I placed the kitten in Echo's carrier and headed out the door.

I walked into the sterile building, my eyes adjusting to the excessive use of decorative writing in the room. The receptionist glanced up at me and started yelling for John. I hardly even noticed when the man showed up.

"Allison, you look terrible. Are you alright?" the man asked, tilting his head.

I gave a short nod. "Yeah. Long drive home. Ran into some traffic." I might as well lie. He didn't need to know.

John nodded slowly. "Ah... I see. how is the new job going?"

I gave a small smile. Dang... I forgot how nice he was. We really needed to talk again. "Uh... g-good. Um, I found a kitten. It didn't have a color, and I don't think it's microchipped. Can you sex it?"

After doing all the necessary checks, the man finally said. "Yep... it's a male." He concluded after much protest from the kitten. "Bring him back in a week or two. He most likely hasn't gotten any yet."

I grinned. "Alright, sounds good. I'll see you later, John."

The man waved.

It was a shame that they weren't close anymore. He was a really nice guy.

Upon returning home, the phone started ringing like crazy. Groaning, I trudged towards the phone. I checked the collar ID. Was that... Keving...?

"How the hell did he get my number?!" I growled.

Carter shrugged. "Maybe it's because you work for him, you dingus." She started to go through anime box sets.

"True." I shrugged and hit answer. "Hello...?"

"I have wonderful news, Miss Petrie, We are holding a string of emergency meetings! You'll be picked up momentarily."

I groaned. "What do you mean?! I just got home!"

"Huhuhuu~!" And then call ended.

I stared at the 'call ended screen', exasperated. Finally, I dared to speak. "Carter, get your crap together, we're going back to New York."

Carter groaned. "But I don't want too."

I sighed. "I know, Carter. I don't either. But if we have to go, I want to eat some pancakes first. Scarf them down, though... we're being picked up."

About five minutes later, I heard a distant roar. Groaning, I stood up. What the hell was this...?

Carter grabbed her bag and stepped outside. A solid minute later, she popped her head back in. "Allison, you should see this."

The noise was now so loud my ears were about to bleed. Finished with life, I ran outside and did a double take. A black Air Force helicopter was floating above my front yard.
