Stood by the side of the grave, 13 year old Khaxe knew her life would never be the same. She looked at her older sister Luna with tears streaming down her tears as they said their last goodbyes to their mother.
6 years later:
"Khaxe, come on! I know you don't want but we gotta pack so move your fat butt out of your room before I kick down your door" Luna said. "Go away! I am not moving! End of!" Luna sighed and with one swift kick, swung the door open. She ran into the room as Khaxe began screaming at her. "Get. Your. Ass. Up" Luna said while pulling her to the door. "GIRLS! I'M GOING TO THE STORE! GO INTO THE ATTACK AND GET THE BOXES FROM THERE WHILE I'M GONE!" Their dad Matt yelled at them. "OK DAD!" Luna yelled back while glaring at Khaxe. "Up now! Come on. I don't wanna go either. But dad can't live here anymore with moms memories everywhere. And I'll admit, I find it hard too. Please. Just make it easier for us both and get up" "Fine. But just so you know, I am getting the biggest room where ever we go." Luna rolled her eyes but nodded. She moved so Khaxe could get in front of her. They walked to the ladder and climbed into the loft. They began to pack some boxes and take them downstairs. They got to the last few of the boxes when Khaxe turned around too quickly and knocked over a photo. "Great going klutz" Luna said, going over to pick it up. That's when she noticed the battered looking book hidden behind the picture. "Khaxe, come here" "I know. I'm a nightmare. But you don't need to go on." "Would you shut up for 2 seconds and look. It must be moms. It's her handwriting" Luna said, flipping threw the first few pages. "Look at the date. She was 16. She hadn't even met dad at that age" "Read it. Please. Just a little" "Just a little" Luna said. She opened it to page one and ran her fingers over her mothers writing, trying not to cry. "No one will believe me if they read these words aloud but I know what I saw that night. Something new, and unusual. I hope that no one ever finds this book but if they do, they must know that I, Meredith Lucille Oliver, was of sound mind and body writing this book." Luna said softly. "A boy appeared last night and asked me to follow him. He told me of a place where I could find all the answers I would ever need to find out about my parents death. He was beautiful and kind. I followed his instructions. He told me about a small book shop in Nantucket. There was a book there called 'The Isle of the lost'. He told me that that was where I would find me answers." That's when they heard the front door slam shut, scaring both of them. "GIRLS! WHERE ARE YOU?!" "COMING DAD" Luna said, slamming the book shut. "Isn't Nantucket where dad is moving us to?" Khaxe asked. "Yeah but we can't tell him about the book. He will take it away from us and I want find out about what mom knew. She didn't want anyone to find out and we have. Come on" Luna said. They went downstairs and put the last of the boxes in the car, driving away from their mothers home for the last time. Tears rolled down both girls cheeks as their father drove away, never to return. Or so they thought...
