Chapter five

Cleo's POV
"Umm......  Well. "
"You see..... "
How do tell someone that their friend is turning into a crank and ran away? That's like telling someone that their friend is becoming a ceased murderer with barely any or no living brain cells left while rotting and slowly dying of a terrible and incurable disease. Because that is basically what this is! "Your friend was becoming a crank so she gave us some answers then ran away so she wouldn't kill us when she was past the gone. Now it's your turn to give us answers. ", Alby answers bluntly. Maeve looks at us, surprised is an understatement. "But she is immune. She can't turn into a crank. ", Maeve says. "She didn't tell you? I guess I should have seen that coming, but she told us that Ratman took her immunity away. ", Minho says. "Oh. Alright. Now it's time for your answers. ", Maeve states simply, no longer seeming shocked. "Wait, wait, wait. How do you just, move on like that?", I say, shocked at the girl. "Multiple reasons. For one, I grew up with WICKED. That can turn a heart ice cold. Two, I've lost plenty of people, I've gotten used to it. And three, living with cranks for as long as I have takes away at least part of your humanity. It would be surprising if it didn't take it all away. ", The green eyed girl answers, practically shrugging off the question. "Alright, alright. Get on with these so called 'answers'!", Alby rages. "Alright, alright! Chill! So, WICKED sent us to be a trial for you when you came to the crank palace the first time. We were meant to attack and see who would live. Kill off the one with the flare, you see. The blonde boy had already been taken there so all we had to do was kill 'em, but we didn't want to. Thomas here took care of that anyhow. You see, we did get out of here that one time,  when Newt and a bunch of others escaped. We followed Newt. Saw everything. We weren't really needed by WICKED after that. So, they sent us to capture Thomas and get rid of the rest of ya. But we didn't, and they disbanded us. Almost died multiple times, but we are still here. Got captured back by WICKED, but escaped. I suppose that's when Ratman, as you call him, took Addi's immunity. She never liked what he stood for, where as I encouraged him. Because what is a few kids lives to save the world? But, it seems you didn't agree. Why else would you save your friends instead of saving the world? Anyways, WICKED,  Ratman's cronies anyway, want you back. Ava is trying to stop them but they are coming for you. I know this because they contacted me, asking me to bring you in. Me and Addi were asked actually. We were a team that WICKED put together. Her being the "brains" and me being the "bronze". She wasn't really science smart or whatever though. More like book and street smart. She came up with our plans and knew how to at least try and make them work. I am smart, but I'm just stronger than everyone else in the gang was. So, I am the "bronze". I did most of the fighting and hard work. That's why I was the leader. Now though, because she is gone, I don't have a plan. Ugh, it's going to he hard to get you back to the safe haven with all of those cronies. Well, we can try I suppose. So is this all of you, or are we expecting even more people?", Maeve says, in only a few breathes. She honestly confused me more than anything. "No, no one else is here or expected. ", Minho answers her question.  Chuck spoke up, "Wait, what did you mean by 'Thomas took care of that' when you were meant to kill Newt? And how are we supposed to trust you after what you just said?". "What I mean is that Thomas killed Newt. Granted, Newt begged him to. Like, a lot. Newt said that Thomas had to kill him or he would kill Thomas. Then at the last moment after Newt had tackled Thomas because Thomas refused to kill Newt, Newt seemed to somehow have a last moment of clarity. He pleaded, because who wants to be a blood thirsty, cannibal, rotting, and brainless crank? I agree that death would be better. And you can trust me. If I wasn't actually trust worthy, would I have told you everything that I did? And all of those things about the cronies and such?", Maeve questions. Everyone turns slowly to look at Thomas and Newt. Thomas killed Newt?! What the what! "You killed Newt?!", Minho exclaims, facing Thomas. "Minho! Back off! I made him do it! He did it because he is my true friend! So shut your pony lovin' hole, ya shuck face. We need to focus on what's important here! How to get us all to the safe haven so that none of us die! Again!", Newt exclaims, holding his hands on Minhos shoulders. "Newt is right. ", Zac says. "Yeah! I would want someone to do that for me if I was turning!", Levi says. "And none of us need to die! Because next time, I don't think that Ava can bring us back!", I say. Nora starts to say something, but her being shy and all, her voice is a barely audible squeak, "And remember what we were told about Newts immunity. It won't last very long. We need to get to the safe haven so he doesn't turn.".
"Alright. I'm going to assume that you all agree. I know where it is, and we should start heading there. We can come up with a plan later.", Maeve says. With that, she just walks out of the room. The we all look at each other. Should we follow her? Should we even trust her? I don't know. But then Minho, Newt, Thomas, and Alby walk out following her. Chuck follows. Leaving the four of us in the room. Alone. We all look at each other. "Should we?", I ask. "Well, they did risk their lives and come all this way just to save us. ", Zac points out. "I really don't think we have a choice. ", Levi says. "I agree. ",Nora states. With that, Levi started to follow the others. Then Zac, then Nora. Leaving me to follow behind at the rear. I sigh. I bet that not everyone makes it out of this alive.

Sorry it has been forever! I've been really busy and I usually work on my stories when I'm in the car. Since I'm in the car, I don't have wifi to post it and then I forget to when I get wifi. The chapter before this I've had done for about a week. Super sorry! Bai!
