I LIKE YOU

[in which namjoon finds an emotional jin]

<><><><>

namjoon exited the studio, his head held high as he hummed along to the new song he had just composed. bang pd had liked it- no, loved it, and had made the music team start producing it immediately. feeling as though his pride was on a high, he found himself back in the dorms, right outside his hyung's room.

his favourite hyung's room.

jin hyung's room.

he didn't hesitate before knocking; jin hyung always welcomed him, although he didn't always usher the maknaes in with so much love. namjoon could understand that, as the trio could be exhausting if they were hyper, or together; the joint-at-the-hip triplet bond that they had adopted over the years stitched their relationship together as strong as glue.

he rapped his knuckles lightly on the hard wood of the door, waiting in anticipation for it to be swung open and for his gaze to meet the angel on the other side. when jin answered, he said nothing, simply grabbing namjoon's wrist and pulling him into the dark room, before swinging the door shut behind them.

"hyung?" namjoon asked tentatively, his heart starting to race slightly in fear. "is everything okay?"

namjoon knew that jin wasn't the type to not talk; he constantly spoke about anything, his melodic voice was heavenly to namjoon's ears. and now, when namjoon didn't hear it, his heart almost burst in panic.

he swallowed as he was only tugged further into the darkened room, streaks of light illuminating the tiny dust particles that floated around in the air, and namjoon thought about dust in comparison to humans, and humans in comparison the universe, to infinity and beyond. how irrelevant mankind was in comparison to the big scheme of things, and how even less relevant his feelings towards jin hyung were.

he shook the thoughts away and found himself being thrown on the unmade bed, his legs automatically crossing underneath him as he pulled jin down beside him. he cuddled into his hyung's warmth, heart shattering as he heard his quietened whimpers, small sobs that broke namjoon, the fragments of his hyung's vulnerability piercing through his lungs as he struggled to breathe.

"hyung," he murmured softly, falling back to lie against the soft mattress that smelt like tears and detergent, "i'm here." after pulling jin hyung on top of him to nuzzle into his chest, he rubbed small circles in between the shoulder blades on his back, whispering comfort and consolation as he held together a boy that was rarely ever seen so broken.

after about three minutes, jin sat up and cautiously edged away, a constant stream of snivels causing his nose to scrunch up as he rubbed his puffy eyes. even through the dark namjoon could detect the red blotchiness of his skin, and his heart ached for his contact once more.

"hyung," namjoon started, voice nurturing and low, "i'm always here, got it? whenever you need to talk. so don't feel pressured to say anything, and don't think this is your only chance."

he reached out and grabbed jin hyung's weirdly beautiful fingers, entwining them with his own, tempted to raise them to his lips - but he didn't want to go too gay and ruin the moment.

yet, that very second, jin lifted namjoon's fingers to his own mouth and left a soft kiss there.

namjoon had read hundreds and hundreds of love novels. he'd seen every love movie, he'd heard the stories of his parents and his grandparents and his great grandparents, but nothing he had ever heard could compare the bursting emotion that was exploding within his chest.
