Dear Ashton,
I hadn't imagined you to be this nice, and I appreciate it more than you can envision. The fact that someone I have never met cares more than the people I've grown up with says a lot. I'd also like to let you know that even if you seem joyful, if you ever have any problems, I'm quite experienced with that field, so I'd like to believe I could give good advice. I'll take everything you've told me into great consideration, thank you.
One day, I would love to hear you play the drums. Music is one of my favourite things, and to hear you play would be nice. Who's your favourite artist?
I'm sorry to hear about you dad, however you're lovely so your mother has done well raising you! :)
I agree, we are all talented at one thing or the other, and it's cool that yours is the arts. Also, we seem to have wanderlust in common for I've saved up nearly $10 000 as well! What's on your bucket list? My bucket list is quite long, filled with things varying from skydiving to eating macaroons in Paris.
Until whenever,
Lauren
After neatly folding my new letter, I placed it in its envelope and headed to the bathroom to get ready for bed. Shortly after, I fell asleep, with a million thoughts in my mind and not one to leave my lips.
Over the course of August, September, and October, Ashton and I had continued to talk bi-weekly, and started get to know each other much more. I learned that his biggest fears are needles and having his wrist broken, and that he hasn't had his first kiss yet. I learned that his favourite colour is red, and that he has a puppy named Indie. I learned that his middle name was Fletcher, and that the first time I sent him a letter on August 7th, I made a completely foolish assumption. Ashton Irwin was not one to judge, Ashton Irwin was the type of person to always put others before himself. He was careless, to the point where he was vulnerable, yet he didn't mind, and that scared me. Because through the course of my life, I've never met anyone who wasn't shielded by their fears. I've never met anyone who's been so open and reckless, and it was so different. I wanted to be just like Ashton Irwin.
By the time he had sent me his seventh letter, it was the thirteenth of November, and flurries of snow had begun to collect on my windowsill. We were three months into school, and it was just as tedious as last year. The repetitive happy façade sickened me, and I was ready to lose it. When the bell for the end of fourth period had rung, two boys I had never met walked up to me.
"Lauren! Is it true you sexted Luke in Grade 10?" they obnoxiously questioned. My eyes widened in shock, as my heart began to beat quicker.
"Where did you hear that?" I asked, my voice shaky and broken. Before you ask, no, I definitely did not send a sexual text to a guy I have never met. The two boys in front of me snickered, saying something about a girl in their class. I shook my head, walking away in shock and wonder. I've heard and seen these kind of things in movies and TV shows, but who would have the indecency to create a rumour like this?
I met up with Ali and Nicole by my locker, grabbing my necessities and facing the two of them.
"Do y'all know who created that rumour about me?" I asked, a visible frown on my face. The two of them looked at each other, then looked straight at me. "Of course not Lauren, we would tell you immediately if we found out." I nodded, saying goodbye to them and heading out the main doors.
I was halfway off school grounds when I heard the words that made my heart drop down to my stomach.
"Did you hear about Lauren sexting that hot boy in grade 10?"
"Yeah, but it's all a rumour. Ali and Nicole told basically everyone in the grade."
