"1, 2, 3, 4, 5..." I could hear him coming after us, as we run down the stairs.

"Come on, this way!" whispers Zeke, dragging me inside an unlocked room and closing the door behind us.

Darkness took over my sight. The only small beam of light came from the bottom of the door. Shuffling away from the wooden door, my back hit something metal that made a small vibrating echo. Even in the pitch black, I realize the metal came from a washer. So, Zeke, has us hiding in a laundry room.

He pulls me down onto the floor with him against the washing appliance.

Zeke softly whispers, "Shh, he'll hear us." I giggle and nod, realizing that Zeke can't see my silent gesture.

Hunching my back and resting my chest over onto my knees, I place my hands next to my feet on the cool concrete ground.

I listen intently, I mutter to Zeke, "Do you hear that? The counting stopped."

Starting to panic, I knew we were going to be discovered soon enough. I feel something brush against my hand, quickly I pull my hand back, but Zeke grabs it.

"It's okay," Zeke says in a warm tone.

With Zeke, I feel safe as if no horrid beast or creature can harm me. He is so brave. something faintly touches my cheek.

It feels soft, warm, and welcoming.

Zeke's hand holds my face.

I hear his breathing next to me.

He tugs my head toward him.

Unexpectedly, an object touches my mouth. I pull back from the unknown item as Zeke's hand grazes my hair. Once again, Zeke tugs my head toward him.

"Braelyn?" Zeke questions.

"Yeah, Zeke?" I respond.

"Can I, uh, can I kiss you?" Zeke abruptly asks.

I smile within the shadowy laundry closet. The truth is, I have liked Zeke for a little while, and so kissing him wouldn't be so bad.

"Okay," I say.

Zeke leans in close to me; his shallow breath inches from my face. Then, his warm lips lightly touch mine. After about three seconds, we pull apart, staring at each other in the dark. My stomach flutters like butterfly wings. I assume Zeke likes me because I'm not sure why else he would ask to kiss me.

Suddenly, the doorknob jiggles and the wooden door bursts open startling us. My heart almost jumps out of my chest as the beams of light fell upon us, ready to seize us as identified victims.
