The coffee shop was probably the coziest building on the university's campus. It was a main attraction for many of the students, not only to grab a cup to get through the day, but to find a relaxing place to work. Makoto saw it a lot: students checking, re-checking, and finishing up their assignments as they sipped their drinks. He enjoyed working at this this place, it had such a calming atmosphere and the coffee shop's interior was particularly charming. He stood behind the counter in the mornings, serving the first wave of student coming in to refuel after all-nighters. People came and went. But -
there was one particular boy.
Always with something - a book, notebook, sketchbook, his computer. Something to work on, something to keep him busy. It seemed to Makoto like he would go in and out of focus as one moment, his face might be buried in a book and the next, his eyes would wander. His seemingly icy blue eyes that were surprisingly warm. They contrasted against his hair, which Makoto first thought was black, but was actually tinted a dark, dark navy blue that was really only noticeable in a certain light.
He must be an art student, what with all the sketching, and sometimes he would come in with paint on his face or plaster dust on his pants. So, maybe he's good at painting, Makoto thought, or maybe sketching is more his thing? Maybe he likes sculpting? It would fit him, I mean look at his - anyway.
The boy came up to the counter and glanced up at the menu board behind Makoto, which was maybe a little odd, he thought, since he always ordered the same thing. Most customers do. "Caramel macchiato. Please."
Makoto flashed that charming smile of his. "Of course."

a/n: wow i hope that was okay.. i really wanted to see a coffee shop au with these two so i tried to write one... i don't know much about coffee shops or universities so let's hope this turns out okay!! gonna post in short chapters, i dunno if i'll even write much more aah
