My name "Colin Grayson" became official around a year ago, so I wanted to share a bit about it. I won't be mentioning what my dead name is for personal reasons, but know that I still go by it often in real life because I'm not out to my family. The people I am out to all call me "Colin" (my chosen name) or "Hatter" (my nickname), so that's what I'll be talking about here...
Hatter was a nickname given to me in elementary school because I adored Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures In Wonderland" and my best friend (who later became my first girlfriend, fun fact) reminded people of Alice (blonde hair, blue eyes). The nickname admittedly didn't last very long but I fell in love with it so when I started my Wattpad account (my first social media account) back in 2015, I put Hatter as my name.
Colin comes from my dad. He passed away when I was thirteen (I'm seventeen now) and when searching for a name I found out from my mom that he had actually wanted to name me Colin, had I been born a boy (remember, I'm not out to my family). I had a small inner debate when my mom revealed to me that she had wanted to name me Oliver not Colin, had that been the case. In the end it really was an easy decision though, because Colin just felt right.
Grayson was thought up much later because honestly no one uses my middle name, so it never came to mind. My darling Lissa (LissaWho5) brought it to my attention after I had explained the meaning behind my first chosen name, and she sent me the name Grayson. Once again, it felt right and since then I haven't thought twice about it.
UPDATE! Since posting this chapter I've changed my middle name! I am no longer Colin Grayson but instead Colin Theodore! On my dad's side of the family each generation has at least one male that has a middle name starting with T. Since I'm the only male in my generation, I've decided to continue the tradition and go with the name Theodore.
