I've always wished I could blend in with the crowd, going completely unnoticed. Sometimes I even wished I wasn't friends with such a popular, well known, group of people.
I wasn't ready for this first day of school.
My best friend, Emily, called me and told me what to wear. I laughed at her demand and just stuck to my usual jeans and a tshirt, staring at myself in the mirror and mentally preparing myself to deal with my ridiculously wet hair.
I gave up, leaving the curls down to air dry and just wore mascara, then heading downstairs to see my mom rushing to get her things together for her work.
She was at home, and that's what made me happy.
My mother worked for a food company and traveled around the world. Sometimes she'd be gone for weeks on end, but when she was around I felt like a normal teenage girl who didn't have to take care of my little brother as if I was his second mother. But I kind of was.
My dad was far away, living somewhere probably with a beautiful wife. He called sometimes, but that was pretty much it. My mother had a boyfriend who came every now and then. His name was Bryan, and sometimes he brought DJ and I dinner when my mom was gone. Bryan was nice, but I could tell all he only cared about was my mom- which I didn't mind.
"Go to school, I've got DJ." My mom said, saying she'd take my little brother to school.
I gave her a hug and left in my car.
The first day was the usual, and I was now a senior. The excitement still hadn't yet hit me, but sometimes it never does.
"My girlfriend!" I heard that familiar voice shout, and I turned to meet those cool blue eyes.
My boyfriend, Mark, gave me a beautiful grin. His golden hair shined in the sun, and he left his group of guy friends to embrace me. "Hey Mark." I smiled, hugging him tightly back.
He told me he'd be right back when walking me to my locker and went to meet up with his best friend, Alex. The two most popular guys in school. Alex was the King. Football star, baseball prodigy, and Mark was great too, but the entire school will tell you- Alex was gifted.
My best friend spotted me. "Emily, you're really tan." I smiled, seeing her almost orange skin.
She gave me a glowing grin. She was Alex's girlfriend, beside me on the chart of well-known beings. "Thanks, but I see you want to laugh at me." She said knowingly.
