World's Apart (an Adventure Time fan-fic)

Chapter 3

Piper's P.O.V:

I sat there listening through the door to the kitchen trying to figure out what they were talking about, holding my breath anxiously. I want to eavesdrop or anything but i wanted to make sure that they weren't suspicious of me and where i came from because if this place was real and this is what might happen in the future, i don't want to alter the coarse of time by telling them something they shouldn't know. Or does that rule only apply for the past? I don't know, time travel is confusing.

I jumped as Finn raised his voice in annoyance. "I do not have a crush! I just saved her is all and we can trust Piper."

"Finn, all i'm saying is i don't want you to get your heart broken again. I mean, first it was Princess Bubblegum and then it was Flame Princess--"

The argument suddenly froze as i shifted positions nervously, causing the wood floor under me to creak. I slowly backed up and made sure not to make anymore noise, making my way back up the ladder to the bedroom. I sighed in relief as i heard the talking continue like nothing ever happened. Did Finn really like-like me? No, he couldn't. We've just met and even if he did, we could never make it work. I am from a different time and place after all. 

I instantly snapped out of my trance and scrambled up the ladder into the bedroom as Finn's cute little bear themed hat came into veiw. I sat back on the bed casually and smiled as Finn and Jake came back up the ladder a few seconds later.

"Piper, we've been discussing and i guess you could stay here for a little while..."Jake pouted.

Finn elbowed him in the ribs. "Sorry about him, you can stay as long as you want. Hey, do you wanna--" He was cut off by a knock at the door.

"I'll get it." Jake said, still looking annoyed with us both.

Me and Finn were left alone, the silence making it feel awkward between us.

When Finn finally spoke he was blushing. "So, since you'll be here for a little while, do you want to go adventuring with me and Jake sometime? Not like a date or anything, just to hang out like friends. I mean, unless you don't want to be friends."

I laughed at his cute little stutter. "That sounds like fun! Hey, are you always this nervous around girls?"

Before he could answer me with more nervous stutters, a massive explosion from downstairs made the entire tree fort shudder, followed by three more huge explosion that were much stronger than the first. Finn grabbed me and pulled under the bed with him to shield us from chunks of ceiling falling everywhere. The temperature also seemed to drop in a matter of seconds.

"Piper, i gotta get Jake. Stay right here and don't come out under any circumstances." He squeezed my hand reasuringly.

"Promise me that you'll be careful, Finn. You don't know what could be down there." I hesitantly kissed his cheek, causing us both to blush.

"I will. Oh, you should take this knife in case anyone comes up here that isn't me or Jake." He took a small dagger from out of his backpack and placed it in my hand gently before leaving.

Minutes passed since Finn left and he still hadn't come back with Jake. This worried me especially with the temperature dropping quickly and the explosions from below rocking the entire tree fort. The building might collapse entirely and Finn and Jake and i might be crushed if anymore tremors rock the house. It's that or we all freeze to death.

I jumped in fear, dropping my knife as i heard a familiar voice coming from the doorway. It was not a pleasant voice either. "Hey Guys, where did you all go? Check out this new spell book i got at a yard sale. I can make ice bombs now. Neat, huh?"
