The next day, I woke up with Shawn missing from the entire house. He had left a note on the counter underneath a huge vase of tiger lilies; my favorite flowers. It said:
Katie-
I'm going to be out all day arranging an event for tomorrow. You should take a day off, get a new bathing suit (hint hint), sandals, shorts, anything. I left the credit card on the counter. I love you. See you tonight babe.
-S.M.
I put the note back onto the counter and shoved the flowers into my face, smelling deeply. I sighed and set them back down before I smashed them.
After showering and getting dressed, I called Mir.
"Hey Mir! Want to go shopping today?" I asked excitedly as I crossed my fingers.
"Sure! We aren't going to the mall though." she said jokingly. I huffed.
"Yeah, I'm tired of malls," I said as I laughed sarcastically.
"I'm on my way over." she told me and I hung up. I grabbed the keys and made my way towards the car. Unlocking the doors, I saw Miranda walking swiftly towards the car from her house. I waited for her to buckle up before driving out of the fancy neighborhood.
"Starbucks?" she asked happily.
"Duh!" I said with a mock valley-girl voice. Miranda flipped her hair over her shoulder dramatically.
"Betch, don't get that tone with me!" She said back. I threw my head back laughing when we got to a red light. I turned right and parked in the Starbucks parking lot. I locked the car and dramatically flicked my long leg out of the car. Mir laughed at me as I let my hair unattractively blow in the wind. We walked into the little shop and strutted up to the counter.
"Hi, welcome to Starbucks. Can I start you off with a blueberry scone?" a girl asked us. I shook my head a I studied the menu.
"I'd like a vanilla bean frapé with two pumps of raspberry, one pump of mocha, and one pump of caramel." she tapped the screen then asked what size. "Venti, please." she smiled at me then turned her attention to Miranda.
"I just want the same as her, but minus the caramel." she told her. The woman nodded and tapped the screen a couple more times.
"Your total is $10.58." she said cheerfully. I handed her a twenty then waited for my change. When she handed me the change and receipt, she asked for our names.
"Yes, I'm Katie and this is Miranda." I said, then we walked over to the tables to wait for our orders.
"If she misspells my name I'm going to scream." Miranda declared. I chuckled and nodded.
"So where do you want to shop?" I asked Miranda. "I need a new bathing suit apparently."
"We can go to the Hollister outlet. There's a Shoe Carnival right next to it." she said. I smiled and nodded.
"Katie and Miranda?" the woman called from the counters. I stood up and took our cups, checking the names for any mistakes. When I found none, I put my hand on her shoulder and gave her a half smile.
"I thank you greatly for not fucking up our names." then I took our orders and walked back to the car with Miranda laughing behind me.
"What was that?" she breathed as I drove off towards the highway.
"I felt like being a weirdo." I said with a smile. I turned up the radio and scanned the stations. After finding nothing, I told Mir to pick songs from my phone. She just happened to choose Fancy by Iggy Azalea. I just about punched her.
