Aaron stands there, eyes wild, hair twisted up in a nest of ash blonde. He's holding something something shiny and brass in his palms. It sticks out awkwardly between his long, slender fingers. He looks up at me, or rather down at me. Even slouched in the doorway he's still much taller than I am.
"I um, found your doorknob." He presents it to me. I take it in my hands, the smooth metal now feeling battered as I slide my thumb across the cool material. I stare at it blankly.
"Found it?" I ask, voice uncharacteristically small from sadness and hoarse from screaming.
"I MAY have freed it from its prison on your door with the heel of my shoe while trying to break into your apartment. You know. Hypothetically speaking." He blurts. I nod in understanding, even though I have no idea what I'm agreeing to.
